    New York -- The home and lifestyle company that domestic diva Martha Stewart launched in 1997 has been acquired in a cash-and-stock deal valued at approximately $353 million. It’s a big comedown for a company that was valued at $2 billion on the day of its initial public offering in 1999, but whose fortunes have been on the downslide for a while now.

  • Edible Arrangements taps specialty retailer exec as CFO

    Wallingford, Conn. — Edible Arrangements International has named Tony DiPippa as CFO.

    DiPippa replaces former CFO George Wilson, who moves over to support Edible Arrangements founder and CEO Tariq Farid in the expansion of Edible Brands and  his other ventures, including Netsolace, Broadpeak and Naranga.

  • Staples/Office Depot deal awaits FTC action

    Office Depot shareholders approved of the company’s acquisition by Staples in a vote that will prove to be largely symbolic if federal regulators determine a deal involving two direct competitors is not in the best interest of consumers.

    Office Depot agreed to be acquired by Staples on Feb. 4 and on June 19 a preliminary vote total showed that 99.5% of shareholders approved of a deal that involves them receiving $7.25 in cash and 0.2188 of Staples stock for each share of Office Depot stock.

    A former Walmart executive has joined with a real estate executive to expand New York City-based luxury home décor retailer Gracious Home.

  • Borderfree adds 120 markets

    New York - Borderfree, provider of international cross-border e-commerce solutions, has expanded its platform to reach more than 220 countries and territories. This expansion of scope includes an additional 120 countries and 15 currencies.

    Key emerging luxury markets Borderfree will now sell to include Nigeria and Kazakhstan. Both markets offer opportunities for e-commerce expansion due to increasing smartphone saturation and discretionary spending.

    The additional countries will be available to Borderfree customers starting this June.

  • Rent the Runway taps industry vet for key position

    New York - Fashion retailer Rent the Runway has hired industry veteran Chris Halkyard as the company's first chief logistics officer, effective Aug. 1. In his role, Halkyard will oversee Rent the Runway's logistics platform, including the company's proprietary reverse-logistics operations and transportation network.

  • Report: Amazon expands two-day shipping assortment for Prime members

    Seattle — Amazon.com is reportedly expanding the assortment of items eligible for free two-day shipping for members of its Prime paid subscription. According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is now listing items shipped directly from third-party seller warehouses for free Prime two-day shipping, without any publicity.

  • Report: Amazon mulls crowdsourced delivery

    Amazon is considering creating a network of drivers similar to Uber in order to speed up deliveries and reduce shipping costs, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

    Instead of using UPS or FedEx, Amazon.com is mulling a plan to hire ordinary people to make deliveries that are on the way to their destinations, the Journal says. The e-commerce giant is also looking at partnering with retailers to store the merchandise before delivery.
