  • Blogging in fashion at Neiman Marcus

    DALLAS -- High-end apparel retailer Neiman Marcus has announced the launch of NMdaily, a fashion blog, which the company said will provide daily updates from "the front lines of the design world." 

    "By producing a blog with a truly editorial point of view, we are creating a new and exciting online customer experience," said Wanda Gierhart, CMO Neiman Marcus Group. "NMdaily is central to our social media activities."

  • Walmart extends offer to Illinois-based Amazon affiliates

    SPRINGFIELD, Ill.  -- Walmart has joined the likes of Sears and Barnes & Noble in offering Amazon.com affiliates the opportunity to join its own network. The retailer today issued an open invitation to all Illinois online affiliates to explore the opportunity to join Walmart.com's affiliate network. This invitation comes as Amazon.com and Overstock.com threaten to terminate their relationships with all Illinois affiliates should H.B. 3659 (Main Street Fairness Act) be signed into law.

  • New leadership named at Guess North America

    Los Angeles -- Guess announced Monday that it has appointed Nancy Shachtman as its president of North America, reporting to Paul Marciano, CEO and vice chairman.

    Shactman was previously president of Guess Inc. Wholesale. In her new position, she will oversee the North American retail operations for Guess and Guess by Marciano, as well as Guess Wholesale, including Mexico.

  • More admired than Costco, not as much as Walmart

    The March issue of Fortune contains the magazine’s annual ranking of the most admired companies, and this year’s list shows Target ranked 22nd. Only Walmart (11) and Nordstrom (21) were ranked ahead of the company. Other notable retailers on the list who ranked lower than Target included Costco (29), Best Buy (36), eBay (45) and Lowe’s (49).

    For a company so often on the leading edge of offering its shopper affordable fashions in the apparel and home categories, there is one area where Target has been slow to keep pace with the prevailing trend.

  • Sears extends invitation to Amazon affiliates

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Sears Holdings has joined other retailers, including Barnes & Noble, in inviting Amazon.com affiliates to work with it following Amazon's response to recent legislation related to collected taxes on e-commerce purchases.

  • What? No mention of Walmart

    Walmat’s efforts to penetrate to New York have been the focus of considerable media attention the past few years so it is somewhat strange to find no mention of the company in a report out this week on commercial real estate trends.

    Laura Pomerantz, a principal with the New York-based commercial real estate firm of PBS Real Estate noted that “2011 will see big changes on the streets of Manhattan. New and unexpected retailers are transforming shopping dynamics from Madison and Fifth Avenue to Times Square and the Upper West Side.”

  • Tiffany's get new leader for overseas markets

    DUBAI -- Tiffany and Co. announced it has named Frederic Cumenal as EVP effective March 10. Cumenal will be responsible for the company's businesses in Asia, Japan, Europe and emerging markets, and will report to chairman and CEO Michael Kowalski.

    Cumenal joins Tiffany from the LVMH Group where most recently he was president and CEO of Moet and Chandon, S.A.
