  • Circle K vet joins Andronico’s as CFO

    Berkeley, Calif. - Cheryl Hughes has joined Andronico’s Community Markets as CFO. Recently appointed CEO Suzy Monford leads the all-female team.

    Hughes formerly held the role of controller for Chemoil, a global oil trading organization. Prior to this role she was CFO at Pacific Convenience & Fuels based in Pleasanton. Her career in food and retail dates back to her 15-year stint as director of U.S. Finance with Circle K Stores Inc.

  • PetSmart bringing same-day delivery to Midwest

    Shoppers who are out of pet food won't have to go very far for a refill, if PetSmart's new partnership with Google has any say about it.

    The retailer announced it has teamed with Google Express to provide overnight service in Chicagoland and a five-state Midwest region (120-mile radius from Chicago) in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio serving 25 million people.

  • C-store chain controls costs for profit growth

    Ankeny, Iowa – Cost controls helped Casey’s General Stores Inc. boost profit even as revenue fell in its first quarter.

    Net earnings grew 23% to $61.8 million from $50.1 million, driven by a significant decline in cost of goods sold.

    Total revenue dropped 10% to $2.05 billion, from $2.29 billion. Fuel price volatility negatively impacted revenue results.

    Casey’s annual goal is to build or acquire 75 to 113 stores, replace 10 existing locations and perform major remodels on 100 existing locations.

  • Amazon primes appetite of Seattle customers

    Seattle – Amazon is priming the appetites of customers in Seattle with a new feature of its Prime Now one-hour delivery service.

    Members of the Amazon Prime paid loyalty program in Seattle can order delivery from participating local restaurants using the Prime Now mobile app.

    Prime members can view participating restaurants, browse menus, place orders and track the status of their delivery in real time. Once an order is placed, Amazon delivery drivers pick up and deliver the food within an hour or less.

    Arlington, Va. -- The Retail Industry Leaders Association issued a strenuous objection to what it called the Department of Labor’s “flawed” overtime proposal.

    West Des Moines, Iowa - Midwestern convenience retailer Kum & Go is streamlining the coming and going of data.

    The chain has selected G.O.L.D. Space Optimization software with centralized data management from Symphony EYC to simplify the merchandising process across its stores.

  • Levin Management becomes exclusive leasing agent for two New Jersey properties

    North Plainfield, N.J. -- Levin Management announced it has been named the exclusive leasing agent for two New Jersey properties: Whiting Town Center in Whiting Township and Fords Shopping Center in Woodbridge Township.

    Whiting Town Center is a 118,000 sq. ft. grocery-anchored property with a mix of retail, restaurant and service tenants. Earlier this year Levin was retained by new ownership to continue its role as managing agent for Whiting Town Center.
