  • Fresh Market looks to roar with ex-Food Lion exec

    After a monthslong search for a new president and chief executive, the Fresh Market Inc. has turned to a retail veteran to provide leadership at a time when the company's growth has been stagnant. 

    The Fresh Market announced that its board of directors has named veteran food retail executive Richard Anicetti as the company’s president and CEO, effective immediately. Anicetti has also been elected to the company’s board of directors.

  • H-E-B is Instacart’s newest partner

    San Francisco -- Regional supermarket operator H-E-B has joined the ranks of retailers offering home delivery service.  

    The chain is the latest retailer to reach an agreement with grocery delivery service provider Instacart. Under the deal, Instagram will offer home delivery to H-E-B customers in the Austin and Houston markets.

  • Fresh Market taps a lion as new CEO

    Greensboro, N.C. -- The Fresh Market named a veteran food retailer who once led Food Lion as its new president and CEO. The hiring follows the abrupt termination of the chain's former CEO and comes as the once high-flying chain has seen its sales stagnate.

  • Lowe’s Canada to reward customers with air miles

    Toronto -- Shoppers at Lowe’s stores in Canada will soon be able to turn their purchases into miles toward air travel.

    Lowe's Canada and LoyaltyOne Co., owner and operator of the Air Miles Reward Program, announced an agreement to launch the reward program with an anticipated full roll-out to Lowe's stores in Canada beginning on Dec. 1.
    Canadian Lowe’s customers will be able to earn Air Miles reward miles at all Canadian Lowe's retail locations and for purchases online at Lowes.ca.

  • Target to test new store café options

    Minneapolis -- Salads and fancy pizza will soon be on the menu at a very limited number of Target locations.

    Starting in October, the retailer plans to test  fast-casual concepts in some 14 stores as it responds to customers looking for higher-quality food and more of a café atmosphere, USA Today reported.

  • Hackers hit pizza chain through POS vendor

    Elgin, Ill. – The latest retail breach to become public knowledge targeted a small chain, but involved a third-party vendor.

    Village Pizza & Pub, a two-store local pizza chain headquartered in Elgin, Illinois, was notified on July 27 of a security breach by TransformPOS, the company that provides its POS payment card processing system.
