  • BevMo grabs two more Albertsons execs

    Specialty alcoholic beverage retailer BevMo is shuffling its leadership team as part of an organizational transformation initiative.  
  • Fast-casual chain in Florida expansion

    PizzaRev, the make-your-own pizza concept backed by Buffalo Wild Wings, will soon be on the march in South Florida.   The company has signed a franchise agreement with Surfside Coffee, one of the largest Dunkin’ Donuts franchise networks in Florida, to develop 45 restaurants across greater Miami. The group’s first location is projected to open at the Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.  
  • Grocer to debut new store brand

    Brookshire Grocery Co. is expanding with a new neighborhood format.    The Tyler, Texas-based supermarket operator will open 26 locations this summer under its new Spring Market banner. The stores will be on the sites of former Walmart Express stores that Brookshire is in the process of acquiring. (The acquisition is scheduled to close in July.) The locations range from southern Louisiana to west Texas.  
  • Lower costs equal higher Q4 profits at Casey’s; store growth planned

    Casey’s General Stores Inc. reported increased net income and decreased revenue during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016.

    The retailer also said it plans to build or acquire 77 to 116 new stores, among other goals for fiscal 2017.

    In the fourth quarter, Casey’s reported net income of $47.04 million, up 14% from $41.34 million the same period the prior year. Total revenue fell 4% to $1.58 billion, from $1.65 billion. A significant reduction in cost of goods sold offset increases in operating and other expenses, resulting in higher profits.

  • Report: Potential buyers fishing for Cabela’s

    A well-known outdoor retailer and private equity firm may be interested in purchasing hunting and fishing chain Cabela’s.

    According to Reuters, Bass Pro Shops Inc. and the private equity division of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. are preparing to make a buyout offer. Cabela’s said in December it was exploring strategic alternatives that could include a sale.

  • Vestar acquires retail center in Seattle area for $31.4 million

    Tacoma, Wash. -- Vestar announced that it has acquired James Center located in Tacoma, Washington, for $31.4 million.

    The 140,240 sq. ft. center is located directly across from Tacoma Community College, which enrolls nearly 14,000 students per year. James Center is anchored by Fred Meyer and Rite, as well as feature tenants: Starbucks, Subway, Verizon, Menchie’s, U.S. Bank, IHOP, FedEx Kinko’s and Ivar’s.

  • Surging Dollar General to open record number of stores in 2016

    Dollar General reported record sales and profits last year and plans to extend the streak in 2016 with 900 stores and an even greater number in subsequent years, according to the company’s new financial targets.

    In 2015, Dollar General opened 730 new stores and remodeled or relocated 881 stores which combined with a 2.8% same store sales increase allowed it to grow total sales 7.7% to $20.4 billion. The company ended its fiscal year on Jan. 29, with 12,483 stores.

  • CST Brands puts itself up for sale

    Convenience store chain CST Brands has addedtwo new independent directors to its board and announced it plans to pursue “strategic alternatives” that could include selling the company.

    The company says the strategic review process will be comprehensive and will include a fresh look at several of CST's previously announced strategic initiatives and plans.

  • Grocer racks up another impressive year

    Publix Super Markets hit a milestone in 2015 as it exceeded the $30 billion mark in annual sales and also racked up another impressive quarter.

    The grocer reported that net earnings for the quarter ended Dec. 26, 2015, rose 15% to $521.1 million, from $453.3 million in the year ago period. For the full year, earnings rose some 13%, to $2 billion, compared to $1.7 billion last year.
