  • C-store giant names CFO

    Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. has appointed Claude Tessier as its CFO, effective Jan. 28. The leader in the Canadian convenience store industry, Couche-Tard is the largest independent convenience store operator in the United States terms of number of company-operated stores.

    The industry veteran joins Couche-Tard from Canadian grocer Sobeys Inc., where he was president of the IGA Operations Business Unit.

    Citing a Virtual Builders Exchange report, the San Antonio Business Journal last week reported H-E-B would be opening a pureplay convenience store operation with plans to construct a 7,500-sq.-ft. convenience and fuel center.

  • Report: CVS to open new location on Vegas strip

    A CVS store is expected to open on the Las Vegas strip in May, according to a report by Vegas Inc. published Tuesday. It will be CVS' fourth location to Walgreens' five, the report noted. "They've really been popping up quickly," Ray Germain, associate VP investments with Marcus & Millichap told Vegas Inc. "It's crazy what you'll pay for a little packet of Advil. (Vegas Inc.)

  • Northgate González Markets purchases property for store relocation

    Newport Beach, Calif. -- X Team International announced that partner Strategic Retail Advisors negotiated the purchase of a 104,423-sq.-ft. property at La Habra Towne Centre located in La Habra, California, on behalf of Northgate Gonzalez Markets.

    La Habra Town Centre is situated on 9.2 acres and is currently home to CVS, Petco and Jack in the Box. Nelson Wheeler and Blaine Bush of SRA represented Northgate Gonzalez Markets. Jones Lang LaSalle represented the seller.

  • Chain to increase employee wages — without cutting hours

    Sheetz, the family-owned and operated convenience store chain, announced it will invest more than $15 million to raise the wages of store employees across the company. And it is doing so without cutting back on hours for full-time employees.

  • Sporting goods retailer continues to expand

    Sportsman’s Warehouse is expanding its operations.

    The company will open three new stores, with locations in Prescott, Arizona; Rock Springs, Wyoming; and Gillette, Wyoming. The stores, which will feature the retailer’s small format model, will open in the summer of 2016.

    The Prescott store will be Sportsman’s Warehouse’s sixth store in Arizona, while the two Wyoming stores will bring the number of the chain’s locations in the state to four.

  • Family Dollar CEO is leaving Dollar Tree

    Dollar Tree says Family Dollar CEO Howard R. Levine is stepping down as an officer of the company following the integration of Family Dollar.

    The company had previously announced that Levine would remain with the company for a period of time to assist with the integration, reporting to, and supporting, Dollar Tree’s CEO, Bob Sasser. Gary Philbin, who was named Family Dollar’s president and COO in July, will continue leading Family Dollar and will continue reporting to Sasser.
