  • Samsung Electronics Canada opening 90 in-store shops in Best Buy Canada and Future Shop

    MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Samsung Electronics Canada is opening 90 new format Samsung Experience Shops  in partnership with Best Buy Canada and Future Shop.  
     
    The company plans to expand its Canadian retail footprint with the opening of two freestanding Samsung Experience Stores, one in Edmonton, Alberta, and the other Richmond, B.C. All retail locations are scheduled to open by spring 2014.

  • Walmart adds tablets to store trade-in program

    Walmart customers can now trade in their tablets at more than 3,600 stores and Sam’s Club locations nationwide. Similar to its new smartphone trade-in program, customers and members can receive up to $300 for their current tablet, which will then be applied toward the purchase of a new tablet.

    The updated sales floor presentations include a new merchandising layout allowing showrooms to expand key lines such as built-in cooking, cooktops and laundry and improve customer shopping experiences with new displays of dishwashers and floor care.

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Home Appliance Showrooms is rolling out a new revamped interior designed to make shopping for appliances an easier experience for consumers.

  • Mid-America brokers sale of Asbury Plaza in Dubuque, Iowa

    Dubuque, Iowa — Mid-America Real Estate Corp.’s Investment Sales team recently brokered the sale of a large portion of the 136,398-sq.-ft. Asbury Plaza in Dubuque, Iowa. The Cafaro organization made the acquisition for $12 million.

    The community shopping center is about two miles from Cafaro’s 700,000-sq.-ft. Kennedy Mall.

    The community shopping center features national anchor retailers including Michaels, Bed Bath & Beyond and Petco. Shadow anchors include Hy-Vee Grocery Store, Kohl’s and AMC Theater.

  • RadioShack bolsters leadership as Q3 loss widens

    RadioShack posted a net loss of $112 million during the third quarter of fiscal 2013, compared to a net loss of $47 million in the year-ago period. It was the retailer’s seventh straight quarter posting a net loss.

    The company also named Paul Rutenis, formerly senior VP, general merchandising manager for the home division of J.C. Penney Company, as its new chief merchant.

  • ComScore: Back-to-school boosts retail site traffic in September

    Reston, Va. – The start of the annual school year drove U.S. consumer traffic at retail sites in September. According to comScore MediaMetrix data, retail computer software sites were the third-most-visited website category in September 2013 with about 64.3 million unique U.S. visitors, up 12% from 57.3 million the prior month.

  • Miracle Mile Shops welcomes four new tenants

    Las Vegas — Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino is ushering in four new dining and retail destinations spanning 9,192 sq. ft.

    Two new restaurants, Meatball Spot and Ketchup Premium Burger Bar will soon boost the restaurant count 17.

    Tervis, the insulated tumbler retailer, will open at Miracle Mile Shops in December.  Slated to open in February 2014, Shoe Palace will add its selection of footwear, apparel and accessories to the center.
