  • Japan’s MUJI Department Stores installs NCR’s new self-checkout concept

    New York -- NCR announced that its SelfServ 90 will be deployed by Ryohin Keikaku Co, Ltd. in Japan. The pilot implementation for MUJI department stores marks the first installation of NCR self-checkout technology in a non-grocery environment in Japan.  Additional deployments are expected for its high-traffic locations inside terminal buildings and metro areas, as well as other stand-alone locations. The MUJI store in Yurakucho, Japan is the site of the initial installation.

  • RadioShack offered $500 million loan from Salus Capital

    New York -- RadioShack could receive another dose of life support. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Salus Capital Partners has offered to provide $500 million to RadioShack Corp. in a kind of debtor-in-possession loan used by companies to fund operations in bankruptcy.

  • GameStop going Azure with omnichannel strategy

    Retailers loking to take retail innovation to the next level may want to look at GameStop and its new omnichannel partnership with Microsoft.

    The video game retailer announced Monday at NRF’s Big Show that it will use Microsoft's Azure cloud-powered network "enhance the in-store engagement of its customers in interactive, informative, and entertaining ways."

    GameStop will be one of the first retailers to use Azure to stream video game and promotional content direct to customer and store associate mobile devices.

  • Best Buy Canada sells private label cards to Desjardins

    Burnaby, Canada - Canadian financial cooperative Desjardins Group is acquiring both the Best Buy Canada and Future Shop private-label credit card portfolios from Best Buy Canada Ltd. Along with the two branded credit card portfolios, Desjardins will also be acquiring most outstanding loans and client accounts.

    In addition, all Best Buy Canada and Future Shop stores nationwide will offer Desjardins' Accord D financing, a product to finance in-store purchases.

  • Nordstrom Rack to open at Marina Pacifica

    Long Beach, Calif. -- Nordstrom, Inc. announced plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at Marina Pacifica Mall in Long Beach, California. The 24,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2015. The property is managed by NewMark Merrill Companies.

    The new Nordstrom Rack will occupy a former Loehmann's space and join a mix of tenants including Best Buy, ULTA Beauty, Pier 1 Imports, AMC Theaters, Barnes & Noble, Sports Authority and Ralphs.

  • Mid-America arranges sale of Underwood Crossings

    Milwaukee -- Mid-America Real Estate Corporation’s Investment Sales team recently brokered the sale of a 4,991-sq.-ft. multi-tenant retail building within the Underwood Crossings development, a 175,000-sq.-ft. retail center located in Brookfield (Milwaukee MSA), Wisconsin. A private investor purchased the property for $1.7 million.

  • Walmart Neighborhood Store opens at Palmetto Gardens Plaza

    Miami Gardens, Fla. -- Palmetto Park, the owner of Palmetto Gardens Plaza, announced that its new anchor tenant Walmart Neighborhood Store has opened. The new store occupies 40,000 sq. ft. of the 63,000-sq.-ft. shopping center, located at 3799 NW 167th St. in Miami Gardens.

    Palmetto Gardens Plaza will also feature T-Mobile, Cell Phone Repair, and Lee Nails, among other retailers, when construction on the remaining portion of the plaza is complete by the third quarter of this year.
