  • Survey: More than 50% of retailers not fully prepared for EMV deadline

    Naples, Fla. -- With only nine months until the EMV migration deadline, retail and technology professionals are still unprepared, according to a recent survey by ACI Worldwide. The survey was conducted in January 2015 at the National Retail Federation’s 104th Annual Convention and Expo, “The Big Show,” in New York.

    Principle findings of the survey included:

  • Walmart elevates exec to omnichannel role

    With retail executive titles becoming increasingly exotic, credit Walmart for coming up with an unusual sounding title for a position that other retailers might describe as chief omnichannel officer.

  • Top execs from Target, Walgreens, Cabela’s join RILA board

    New York -- The Retail Industry Leaders Association announced that top executives from Target, Walgreens and Cabela’s have joined the association’s board of directors.

    RILA announced four new members of its board, including Target chairman and CEO Brian Cornell, Walgreens president Alexander Gourlay, Cabela’s president and CEO Thomas Millner and Newell Rubbermaid president and CEO Michael Polk.

  • Conn’s showing it ‘Cares’ about kids

    Conn’s is launching a new philanthropic program to help improve the communities it serves by empowering children.

    Conn’s Cares is the company’s first program to will galvanize every employee around a single cause at all Conn’s locations, the company said.

    “Our vision is that Conn’s Cares will become an enduring investment in the children of the communities we serve,” said Theodore Wright, Conn’s chairman and CEO. “We are committed to the idea that every child should have an opportunity to succeed.”

  • Woodfield Mall to undergo transformation

    Schaumburg, Ill. -- Simon will be making significant design enhancements to its iconic Woodfield Mall, located in Schaumburg, Illinois, and featuring nearly 300 retail, dining and entertainment options. The transformation starts in January, with a renovation of the Grand Court and followed by a variety of design and comfort upgrades.

  • Sportsman's Warehouse offers military discount

    Sportsman’s Warehouse will honor those serving in the U.S. military and public safety occupations with a special promotion.

    On Military and Public Safety Appreciation Day, Jan. 24, 2015, the stores will offer discounts of up to 20%. Firearms, ammunition, optics and electronics will be offered with a 10% discount.

  • How Amazon wages price war with Walmart

    Retailers interested in fine-tuning their digital pricing strategies may want to look at a new index called the Price Perception Index.

    The index, created by e-commerce startup Bommerang Commerce, measures how retailers optimize prices to attract buyers, compete with other retailers and build their business on a mix of profit margins and volume.

    The first Price Perception Index looks at the complex competition between Amazon.com and Walmart.com.
