  • What the RadioShack bankruptcy really means

    Every time a retailer files for bankruptcy I am reminded of a harshly appropriate comment Jay Leno made in a monologue years ago after an icon of American retailing succumbed to market forces.

    Montgomery Ward (remember them?), a company with an illustrious history that had a tremendous influence on the evolution of the retail industry, filed for bankruptcy in 1997 and was later liquidated.

  • A&G Realty Partners to manage sale of RadioShack stores, warehouses

    Melville, N.Y. -- A&G Realty Partners, a leading commercial real estate, advisory and investment group, has been retained by RadioShack to manage the sale of retail store leases and warehouses following the company's recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

  • YellowKorner joins The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale

    Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale, a premier regional mall in Broward County, Florida, has added France-based YellowKorner, a limited edition photo gallery, to its mix of more than 100 specialty retailers. YellowKorner is located across from Dillard’s upper mall entrance and next to Natuzzi in the nearly one million-sq.-ft. mall.

  • Three-in-10 Valentine’s purchases are mobile

    Paris – Valentine’s Day has its origins in ancient Roman times, but that doesn’t mean the holiday isn’t keeping pace with modern technology. By analyzing data from 48 million online transactions made via desktop, smartphones and tablets from more than 200 U.S. retailers, advertising company Criteo determined that three out of 10 Valentine’s Day purchases will be made on mobile.

  • Tenant mix expanding at Shoppes at Blackstone Valley

    Millbury, Mass. -- Douglas Wine & Spirits, Visionworks and DSW are opening in early 2015 at The Shoppes at Blackstone Valley, in Millbury, Massachusetts.
     
    Douglas Wine & Spirits opened February 1st and occupies a 5,400-sq.-ft. space between Sleepy’s and Guitar Center. Visionworks will be in opening in March in a 2,700-sq.-ft. space between Sephora and Feng Asian Bistro.

    DSW will be making its appearance in early April in a 15,000-sq.-ft. space adjacent to Marshall’s.

  • Fred’s Super Dollar sales up in January

    Memphis, Tenn. -- Fred's Super Dollar reported $138.8 million in sales, up 3%, for the four-week fiscal month of January ended Jan. 31, 2015. Comparable store sales for the month increased 4.3% versus a decrease of 1.8% for the same period last year.

  • Retail vet Peters named COO at digital innovator

    James Peters held key leadership roles at Office Depot, Staples and Ross Stores but now the veteran operator is in a new role at a company giving new meaning to e-commerce.

    Peters was named president and COO at San Francisco-based Delivery Agent where he had served on the board since last October. Delivery Agent’s business model is to turn viewers into revenue generating customers for brand and media companies.
