  • Changing of the guard at Haier

    Haier America president and CEO Shariff Kan has stepped down and will be replaced by Adrian Micu, effective Feb. 10, according to the company.

    Micu comes to Haier with more than 25 years of executive-level engineering, technology and product development experience within the appliance industry. Most recently, he held the position of VP engineering with Whirlpool Corporation.

    Indianapolis – Hhgregg is now offering online ordering with in-store pickup for Apple products, including iPhone, iPad and iPod models and Apple TV devices. Customers can pay in advance and not have to go through in-store checkout.

    The move comes just a couple of weeks following the retailer’s preliminary third-quarter results which revealed poor performance in the consumer electronics and wireless categories and were below the company’s expectations.

  • REI signs into Sun Center in Columbus

    Columbus, Ohio — REI has signed a lease for a 23,000-sq.-ft. space in Sun Center in northwest Columbus, Ohio, according to Casto, Sun Center’s owner.

    The space is part of an existing 60,000-sq.-ft. Hhgregg store. Hhgregg is downsizing its offering to 37,000 sq. ft., which is more typical of the Hhgregg’s prototype. Hhgregg will remain open during the redevelopment. REI expects to open in the fall of 2014.

    Best Buy has elected Cabela's president and CEO Thomas L. Millner to its board of directors.

  • Hhgregg ‘disappointed’ with preliminary Q3 results

    Hhgregg cited poor performance in the consumer electronics and wireless categories for preliminary third quarter results which came in below its expectations. Hhgregg now expects its full fiscal year performance to miss previously stated guidance.

    For the third fiscal quarter of 2014, Hhgregg estimates net sales to be approximately $707.1 million, a decrease of approximately 11.6% as compared to net sales of $799.6 million reported for the third fiscal quarter of 2013.

  • RadioShack opens new concept store in Fairfax, Va.

    Fort Worth, Texas — RadioShack has opened a new concept store in Fairfax Center II in Fairfax, Va.

    The new concept stores feature a speaker wall where customers can compare 13 different speakers; interactive displays with headphone demo stations; technology explained by touch-screens and apps; brands such as Apple, HTC and Samsung as well as mobile carriers including AT&T, Sprint and Verizon; and a do-it-yourself area where customers can plan projects.
