  • Electronics accessories brand goes physical

    Belkin, which sells accessories for smartphones and tablets, has entered the brick-and-mortar space.   The company has opened a store newly renovated Terminal 6 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with the Hudson Group.   The store, which features a charging station, sells a variety of accessories, including chargers, cables, and screen protectors. It carries about 100 skus.  
  • ‘One-for-one’ brand to open at nation’s largest mall

    Toms Shoes is expanding its fledgling store portfolio, and will open a location at Mall of America, Bloomington, Minnesota, in time for holiday shoppers.   Founded in 2006, Toms matches every shoe purchase with a donation to a child in need, and gives glasses, medical treatment and/or sight-saving surgery with each purchase of eyewear.  
  • Technology repair retailer has big growth plans

    Given the growing proliferation of digital devices, it’s no wonder uBreakiFix is feeling bullish about expansion.   The fast-growing technology repair company specializes in same-day repair service of small electronics. With some 200 locations across North America, uBreakiFix opened 24 stores during first quarter 2016. It expects to have a total of 275 stores by year end.

    One of the most successful formats in the history of retailing is about to get a makeover.        Apple Inc. unveiled its vision for the future of its retail empire, opening a two-level flagship in San Francisco with new design flourishes and service elements that will be rolled out to Apple stores worldwide.     
  • Nation’s largest electronics retailer smashes glass ceiling

    Women now make up the majority of the leadership team at Best Buy, theStar Tribunereported, with the retailer reaching the tipping point in April when it hired Trish Walker from Accenture as president of services. Having more gender diversity has been a commitment of Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly, who took over in September 2012, the report said.
  • RadioShack taps retail veteran as CEO

    RadioShack has named a new CEO with retail turnaround and transformation experience.

    Dene Rogers will join the company as president and CEO on May 9, 2016. Rogers, who will also serve on RadioShack’s board, previously served as CEO of Target Australia and CEO of Sears Canada, which he led to become Canada’s most profitable online retailer, according to RadioShack.

    At RadioShack, Rogers replaces CFO Gordon Briscoe, who has been interim CEO since January when Ron Garriques left the post after serving less than a year.

  • Best Buy wants to get you goods online - fast

    Best Buy Co. Inc. is expanding a test of same-day delivery service from San Francisco to 13 major metro markets across the U.S.

    The electronics chain started the pilot in San Francisco last fall and expanded it to New York early in 2016. It has now added Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

  • Newegg hatches social customer support

    Digital computer and electronics retailer Newegg wants to engage customers wherever they are, including on one of the world’s most popular social messaging apps.

    Newegg will begin using Facebook Messenger to provide customer support. The e-tailer currently offers customer support options via email, SMS text message, phone and chat. Giving customers the ability to engage with Newegg’s customer support representatives via Messenger is an important asset to add to the company’s mobile strategy, according to executives.
