  • American Apparel’s Paula Schneider lands new CEO job

    That didn’t take very long.   Industry veteran Paula Schneider, former CEO of American Apparel, has been named chief executive of DG Premium Brands, whose brands include 7 For All Mankind, Splendid and Ella Moss.   Schneider took the reins of the embattled American Apparel in December 2014. She steered the chain through bankruptcy and reorganization and launched an ambitious turnaround strategy. Schneider left American Apparel in early October amid rumors that the company was on the block.
  • Report: Drexler seeks help to turn around struggling J. Crew

    Legendary retailer Mickey Drexler, chairman and CEO of J. Crew, is working with McKinsey & Co. to develop a new business strategy for J.Crew, reported The New York Post.      J. Crew is looking to reverse a two-year slump. In its most recent second quarter, same-store sales fell 8%, the eight straight quarter of declines.   
  • Off-price retailer continues loyalty partnership

    As the loyalty landscape heats up, TJX Companies is renewing its existing program to remain competitive.   The off-price retailer announced a multi-year renewal of its partnership with Synchrony, a move that will continue to support financing for its five-year-old Rewards Credit Card program.   
  • Michigan center sold for $11.5 million

    Southfield, Michigan-based Versa Development has purchased Cascade Crossing in Sault Ste. Marie for $11.5 million.    Mid-America Real Estate Corp. handled the sale on behalf of the seller, DDR Corp.   Situated at the junction of Interstate 75 and 3 Mile Road in the Canadian border town, the 276,361-sq.-ft. center is anchored by Kohl’s, J.C. Penney, TJ Maxx, and Jo-Ann Fabrics.  
  • North Face offers immersive experience on Fifth Avenue

    The great outdoors has come to Fifth Avenue — courtesy of The North Face.   The retailer, a division of VF Corp., is opening a two-level, 20,000-sq.-ft. flagship in the old Manufacturers Trust Company building, a New York City landmark of modernist architecture. (The official opening date is Oct. 26.)

  • Iowa center sells for $3.4 million

    Rubinstein Real Estate Company has sold the Blackhawk Village shopping center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for $3.4 million to a private investor. Mid-America Real Estate brokered the sale.   The 65,548-sq.-ft. center includes Chuck E. Cheese’s, Famous Footwear, Key West Fitness, and Dollar Tree.   Cedar Falls, a city of about 40,000 people, is the home of the University of Northern Iowa and is situated in Black Hawk County.
  • Warby Parker, University Village, Seattle

    Warby Parker goes back to the future — design-wise at its new store in Seattle.   The design recalls the classic library-inspired aesthetic of the brand’s first-ever store in downtown Manhattan, and is outfitted with light oak shelving, spacious marble tabletops and brass detailing.   It also features exposed metal ceiling beams, concrete flooring and skylights.
