  • Primestor acquires 4G Plaza

    Las Vegas -- In the latest acquisition for its Primestor-Platinum Urban Opportunity Fund I, LP, Primestor Development has acquired 4G Plaza, a neighborhood shopping center in Las Vegas, for $8.8 million.

    Purchased from 4G Properties LLC, the 78,849-sq.-ft. center is anchored by El Super and shadow-anchored by The Home Depot. It is 93% leased. Other tenants include Wells Fargo, Taco Bell, Big 5 Sporting Goods and Sprint.

  • Mint.com reveals cities with most Black Friday shopping activity

    San Francisco -- The 15 cities with the most shopping activity on Black Friday 2011 were Manhattan, N.Y.; San Francisco; Los Angeles; Brooklyn, N.Y.; San Jose, Calif.; Seattle; Chicago; San Diego; Houston; Atlanta; Dallas; Saint Louis;  Portland, Ore.; Austin, Texas; and Minneapolis, according to mint.com, an online personal finance site.

  • Finish Line chief administrative officer to retire

    Indianapolis -- The Finish Line said Tuesday that its chief administrative officer and corporate secretary Gary D. Cohen, will retire from the company effective March 29, 2012.

    Cohen will step down effective December 1, but will remain with the company during a transition period ending March 29, 2012.

    Cohen, 59, has been with Finish Line since 1997, first serving as general counsel and later in his current role.
     

  • Tiffany Q3 profit jumps 63%, lowers Q4 outlook

    New York City -- Tiffany & Co. reported Tuesday that profit for the quarter ended Oct. 31 surged 63% to $89.7 million, compared with $55.1 million in the year-ago period. Strong global sales propelled the strong performance, but the jeweler cautioned that fourth quarter earnings, which include the key holiday selling season, could fall below expectations.

    Revenue rose 21% to $821.8 million from $681.7 million a year ago, handily beating Wall Street’s expected $801.8 million in revenue.

  • IBM: Mobile devices accounted for 14.3% of Black Friday online retail traffic

    Armonk, N.Y. -- U.S. shoppers took advantage of early sales this holiday driving a 39.3% increase in online Thanksgiving day spending while setting the stage for 24.3% online growth on Black Friday compared with the same period last year, according to the fourth annual IBM Coremetrics Black Friday Benchmark study, which tracks more than a million transactions a day, analyzing terabytes of raw data from 500 retailers nationwide.

    Earlier than ever opening hours over the holiday weekend placed unprecedented demands on store associates. Whether full time workers or among the hundreds of thousands of seasonal employees whose services are required to cope with the peak demands of the holidays, one thing is clear. Energy and attitude can amount to retailers’ “engagement advantage,” arguably the most crucial differentiating factor when it comes to influencing purchase decisions, sales and long-term loyalty.

  • Thanksgiving weekend sales hit record high

    New York City -- Retail sales broke records during the Thanksgiving weekend, climbing 16%, according to a survey by BIGresearch for the National Retail Federation.  Shoppers spent $52.4 billion, up from $45 billion last year.

    A record 225 million shoppers visited stores and malls over the Black Friday weekend, up from 212 million last year. Shoppers on average spent $398.62, up from $365.34 last year, the NRF said.

  • Online comparison site yields top product insights

    Holiday shoppers were hunting for big screen televisions, LeapFrogs, Angry Birds and anything with an “i” in its name this weekend, according to an analysis of online search behavior conducted by the price comparison website PriceGrabber.com.

    According to the firm’s Holiday Dashboard Report, as of Friday morning the top searched Black Friday products included items in some of the most frequently promoted categories such as electronics and toys. The top searched products, according to PriceGrabber, included the following:
