  • Warby Parker to open 1950s classroom-styled store in Dallas

    New York — Online eyewear retailer is opening its sixth retail location, a 1,050-sq.-ft. store in Dallas. It will open on June 18.

  • Groupon Freebies now in consumers’ pockets

    With coupons for anywhere from J.C. Penney to Jos. A. Bank, instant savings are now in people’s pockets with the addition of Groupon Freebies to the coupon giant’s mobile app.

    The feature, which was launched late in 2013 on Groupon’s website, was added to its mobile app on Tuesday. With Freebies now available to deal seekers on the go, some 30,000 coupons, discount codes and other deals that it features will be at customers’ fingertips.

  • Former Saks CEO Sadove to lead new tech-focused division at Traub Associates

    New York — Steve Sadove, former chairman and CEO of Saks Inc., has asked consulting firm Marvin Traub Associates to launch a new division focused on  innovative technologies, concepts and platforms in the retail and consumer industries. Sadove is heading up the new Traub Accelerator division as co-founder, and will also advise Traub’s traditional clients and join the board of directors.

  • Consumers spending outlook brightens in May

    Consumer spending in May increased 4.2%, according to the latest SpendTrend report from First Data Corporation, with the retail sector enjoying renewed vigor.

    First Data’s SpendTrend tracks same-store point-of-sale data by credit, signature debit, PIN debit, EBT, closed-loop prepaid cards and checks from nearly four million merchant locations serviced by First Data. The spending increase of 4.2%, compared to 4.1% in April.

    Outdoor retailer Sportsman’s Warehouse is off to a rough start as a newly minted public company, reporting an 18.1% decline in first quarter same store sales as firearms and ammunition sales evaporated.

  • First Data: Consumer spending grows 4.2% in May

    Atlanta — Consumer spending in the United States grew 4.2% year-over-year in May 2014, compared to April’s 4.1% year-over-year growth. According to Spend Trend analysis from First Data Corp., spending growth was driven by May’s warm weather, which specifically spurred spending on travel and home improvement.

  • Report: Chico’s considers going private

    Fort Myers, Fla. — Chico’s FAS Inc. is reportedly considering taking itself private. According to Financial Times, the women’s apparel retailer has been holding talks with several private equity firms in recent weeks.

  • Attune, SAP partner on SAP Fashion Management

    Burlington, Mass. — Attune Consulting, a global solutions provider to the fashion and lifestyle industries, today has collaborated with SAP to co-develop the SAP Fashion Management application. SAP Fashion Management is a vertical wholesale, manufacturing, and retail solution designed to bring all business operations onto a single platform powered by SAP Hana to create cross-channel, integrated fashion companies.  

    Attune's first customer implementation of SAP Fashion Management will begin in July with Tommy Hilfiger Europe.
