  • Genesco has ‘disappointing’ second quarter

    Solid comparable sales gains and a strong topline performance in Genesco’s direct businesses were not enough to offset a sales and gross margin shortfall versus plan at the company’s Lids Sports Group, prompting the company to lower its guidance for the full fiscal year.

    The company reported earnings from continuing operations for the second quarter ended Aug. 2 of $4.8 million, or $0.20 per diluted share, compared to earnings from continuing operations of $8.5 million, or $0.36 per diluted share, for the second quarter ended August 3, 2013.

  • Destination XL Q2 loss widens; plans 40 new DXL stores

    Canton, Mass. – Charges related to the decision by Destination XL Group Inc. to exit the Sears Canada Direct business resulted in the retailer’s net loss growing to $4 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2014, from $1.6 million a year earlier.

    Total sales fared better, driven by increased traffic and higher conversion rates, increasing 6% to $103.7 million, compared with $98 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2013.Same-store sales rose 7%.

  • Tryperion Partners expands San Antonio portfolio with acquisition

    San Antonio, Texas - Tryperion Partners, a private real estate investment firm, has acquired Gateway Plaza, a 97% occupied, 138,510-sq.-ft. community shopping center anchored by Burlington Coat Factory that is located in San Antonio’s burgeoning metropolitan area. The acquisition, which is Tryperion’s second of a San Antonio REO property in less than a year, includes additional land for future development.

    HSN has re-energized its seasonal offerings with "The Fashion Edit," the company's annual fall fashion series, now through September 24.

  • Mid-America secures 2 retail leases totaling over 45,000 sq. ft.

    Chicago -- Mid-America Asset Management recently secured new retail leases on behalf of two shopping centers in Chicago’s northwest suburbs. DSW Shoe Warehouse signed a lease for 23,773 sq. ft. at Village Square of Northbrook located at the southeast corner of Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook, Ill. The 334,995-sq.-ft. center is anchored by Nordstrom Rack, Marshall’s, The Container Store, PetSmart, Cost Plus World Market, and Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th. DSW, expected to open in spring 2015, is taking the space vacated by Loehmann’s.

  • HSN teams with celebs for ‘Fashion Edit’

    St. Petersburg, Fla. – HSN Inc. is running "The Fashion Edit," the company's annual fall fashion series, now through Sept. 24. The retailer is partnering with a number of celebrity designers, including Kelly Osbourne, June Ambrose and Emma Fox.

  • Gap returning to television with ‘Dress Normal’ campaign

    New York -- Gap is returning to television. The brand debuted four commercials that will air on TV, in cinema, in stores and online. Created by Academy Award-nominated director David Fincher, the films were created with Wieden+Kennedy New York as part of Gap's new marketing campaign, Dress Normal. The TV campaign launches in the United States and United Kingdom in the week of Sept. 1.
