  • Online footwear retailer sprints toward faster delivery

    Vancouver-based specialty online footwear retailer Shoes.com is sprinting toward new levels of fast delivery.

    Shoes.com is offering home and office delivery in two hours or less on select items on its Canadian website.

    The service costs $19.95 per order and launches Thursday, Sept. 17 in Vancouver and Toronto and surrounding municipalities, with plans to expand to Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal and Ottawa by the end of 2015.

    Shoes.com will use a network of local fulfillment centers that have access to the retailer’s technology, operations and marketing.

  • Sundance expanding its store base

    Salt Lake City -- Robert Redford’s Sundance Catalog is growing from its Western roots as it expands its retail footprint.

    The company will open a store in Edina, Minnesota, on Thursday, Sept. 17. The opening is one of two locations Sundance will open east of the Rocky Mountains in 2015 as it grows from lits Western home base. The company plans to continue its retail growth over the next several years with additional stores targeted across various locations nationwide.

    Gymboree increased same store sales and profit in the second quarter, but the kids' retailer still plans to close dozens of stores and sell a distribution center.

  • Teen retailer’s profit plunges in Q2

    Lynnwood, Wash. -- It was tough going for Zumiez Inc. in the second quarter as its profit fell 57% amid increased promotional activity.

    The skate and surf apparel retailer reported net income of $3.2 million in the quarter, compared to net income of $7.5 million in the year-ago period. The results included include costs of approximately $0.4 million, for charges associated with the acquisition of Blue Tomato.

    Total net sales for the quarter increased 1.8% to $179.8 million, from $176.7 million a year ago.

    Boston -- Boston-based City Sports has entered a new state.

    The specialty store retailer announced the opening a 10,000-sq.-ft. store at Mosaic District, a mixed-use lifestyle center located in Merrifield, Virginia.

    Fast-fashion giant H&M is expanding its upscale store brand, Cos, in the United States.

  • Crocs CFO leaving to join West Marine

    Crocs Inc. has a new interim finance chief after its CFO resigned to take the same position at West Marine.

    Jeff Lasher, who joined Crocs in 2009 and was named chief financial officer in 2011, will remain with the company through early November. Lasher plans to join West Marine, Inc. as chief financial officer in November.

  • H&M’s upscale brand poised for U.S. expansion

    New York -- Fast-fashion giant H&M is expanding its upscale store brand, Cos, in the United States.

    Cos, known for its minimalist-styled fashions, will open its first store in Boston, on Newbury Street on Sept. 25. The new space, the brand’s third location in the United States, will offer womenswear and menswear collections with 2,960 sq. ft. of sales area, spread across two floors.

  • First Look: Bealls’ new store concept, Bunulu

    New York -- Department store retailer Bealls Inc. has taken the wraps off its new specialty concept targeted at millennials.

    Called Bunulu, the new format made its debut at Coconut Point Mall in Estero, Florida. Two additional locations — at St. Johns Town Center, Jacksonville, Florida, and The Garden Mall, Palm Beach, Florida — are set to open by the end of this year.
