  • Three-grocer center is sold for $42 million

    A subsidiary of NewMark Merrill Companies has acquired Southgate Plaza in Sacramento five years after it was hired by the owner to re-tenant and reposition the center.   The 339,369-sq.-ft. Southgate has the distinction of being anchored by three grocery stores — Walmart Neighborhood Market, 99 Ranch Market, and 99 Cents Only. Other tenants include Ross Dress for Less, Skechers, Payless Shoe Source, Farmer & Merchants Bank, and Taco Bell.  
  • Hudson Yards retail component is 60% leased

    After Neiman Marcus announced it would open its first New York store at Hudson Yards — the biggest development in that town in recent history — retail leases are being signed at a torrid pace.   According to developer Related Urban, The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards are 60% leased more than two years before their scheduled opening in fall 2018.  
  • Celebrity to debut her first standalone store

    Sarah Jessica Parker will be among the retail tenants at a new luxury retail center.   The actress-cum-designer will open her first freestanding store on Dec. 8, at MGM National Harbor, a new resort and upscale retail center just outside of Washington, D.C. The store, called SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker, will feature the brand’s collection of shoes, handbags, accessories, and its new LBD (little black dress line) line. (The SJP brand launched in 2014 in upscale department stores.)  
  • Survey: Sales, coupons still biggest holiday sales drivers

    It still comes down to price.    Despite more modern approaches, 89% of consumers said that deep discounts (including coupons) are the key determinant of what stores they will visit for holiday shopping this year, according to a survey of millennial and Generation Z consumers conducted by HRC Retail Advisory.    In addition to finding that sales and coupons are more influential than any other tactic in motivating consumers to enter stores this holiday season, the survey also revealed: 
  • First Look: Lululemon, Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles

    Inspired by its West Hollywood Design District locale, Lululemon’s new store on Melrose Avenue offers a sleek, stylish and modern shopping environment.    Modern ivy leaf-inspired patterns throughout the interior and exterior, along with the use of reclaimed red wood and iron spot brick, highlight the architectural components of the 2,750-sq.-ft. space.    
  • DSW bounces back and raises outlook

    After four consecutive quarters of year-over-year earnings decline, DSW Inc. got back on track in its third quarter.   The footwear and accessories retailer had adjusted net income of $42 million, or 51 cents per diluted share, a 16% year-over-year improvement and 3 cents above estimates.  
  • Foot Locker in top form in Q3 profit surges

    Foot Locker reported third-quarter profit that surpassed analysts’ expectations.   The retailer’s earnings soared 96.3% in the quarter ended Oct. 29 to $157 million, or $1.17 a share, up from $80 million, or 57 cents, a year ago.   Total sales increased 5.1% to $1.886 billion this year. Same-store sales were up 4.7%.  
  • Coach’s new flagship includes customization services

    Coach is celebrating its 75th anniversary year with an impressive new flagship on one the world’s most prestigious (and pricey) streets.    The company has officially opened the doors to its “Coach House” flagship on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. The 20,000-sq.-ft., three-level space, designed by Coach executive creative director Stuart Vevers and Studio Sofield, showcases the brand’s modern luxury positioning. (A Stuart Weitzman flagship is located adjacent to it. Coach acquired the brand in 2015.)
  • Forrester: Online holiday sales to increase 13%

    U.S. online holiday spending will reach $112 billion in 2016, growing 13% over 2015.    That is according to Forrester’s Holiday Retail Sales Forecast, which said that while online sales are 12% of annual retail sales, they jump to 16% of total holiday sales during the November and December months.  
  • The Source set to open in Q1

    The 400,000-sq.-ft. retail component of The Source, a new mixed-use project in Buena Park, California will be opening next month, according to developer M+D Properties.   A highlight of the center will be the nation’s first CGV Cultureplex, a concept pioneered by the South Korean movie theater chain CJ CGV. It features 4DX theaters with motion seats and ScreenX, which employs six screens and projectors to surround viewers with movie images.
