  • H&M firms up plans for Arket brand

    As H&M braces for the opening of its first Arket store, it is already putting a plan in motion for its second location.   The fast-fashion chain announced in March that is plans to launch its new brand, Arket, in early fall. Arket, H&M’s first new brand in three years, will feature merchandise men, women and children, and a smaller, curated assortment of home goods.  
  • Coach launches offer to acquire

    Coach has made it official.   The upscale handbag and accessories retailer launched a formal tender offer to acquire Kate Spade & Company for $18.50 per share in cash. Coach announced its plans to acquire the brand at the beginning of May, in a deal that has a total value of $2.4 billion.   
  • Athletic footwear brand steps up retailing experience

    Shoe Palace is moving into the cloud to enhance its omnichannel operations.   A preferred Nike retailer, Shoe Palace is known for its high-end athletic footwear and apparel, and top-notch customer service. The family-run business opened its first store in San Jose, California in 1993. Today, the company operates 118 stores nationwide, and an e-commerce site.   
  • Forum Shops celebrates 25 years

    When Simon opened the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in 1992, the Las Vegas Strip was still a place where one could find $2 blackjack tables and $1.99 steak dinners. Simon Properties took a chance, brought luxury retail to the Strip, and helped pioneer full-price retail on the famed boulevard.  
  • Original Penguin, Aspen, Colorado

    Original Penguin has opened a pop-up in Aspen. The 800-sq.-ft. shop reflects the brand’s upcoming new store concept, which is based on a well-balanced, playful aesthetic that the company’s describes as “mid-century quirk.” At the same time, the store design is quintessentially Original Penguin with nods to the retailer’s 60 years of heritage. Walnut wood textures against crisp, white backdrops create warmer tones throughout the store.  
  • Ralph Lauren taps veteran P&G exec as its new CEO

    Ralph Lauren Corp. has named a 25-year Proctor & Gamble executive to head up its ongoing turnaround effort.     The company appointed Patrice Louvet as president and CEO, effective July 17, 2017. At the time, he will also be appointed to the board. Louvet will dual report to founder Ralph Lauren in his capacity as executive chairman and to the company’s board.  
  • Study: Handbags, purses, personalization top Mother’s Day

    While handbags and purses have historically been considered a “risky gift,” times are a’ changin.’   In fact, handbags and purses were the most popular gift for Mother’s Day 2017, representing six of the top 10 gifts for the holiday. Overall, the accessories category led the top gifts purchased for Mother’s Day, according to data from Loop Commerce. Results were based on sales made on the company’s GiftNow platform.  
  • Inland acquires Chicago-area multifamily property

    Inland Real Estate Acquisitions has purchased an 85-unit residential property with ground floor retail in Vernon Hills, Illinois.   Constructed in 2010, The Commons at Town Center is a six-story structure consisting of 85 multifamily units and 10,609-sq.-ft of retail space. Current tenants are Sam Martirano Salon & Spa, Hawthorn Dental Associates, Eight Piece Rolls, Design Studio Jewelry, and Giuseppe’s Pizza Restaurant.   
  • Actress opening second store

    Sarah Jessica Parker is expanding her brick-and-mortar retail business.   The actress, producer, and designer will open her second freestanding store, in Las Vegas. The SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker store will be located at the Bellagio Resort & Casino and open this summer.
