  • Sam's pushes membership at open house

    Sam's Club held an open house Jan. 11 to Jan. 13 to show its support for small businesses nationwide.

    During the event, guests could take advantage of deals usually only afforded to members. For example, a HP G72 Notebook with 17.3” HP BrightView LED display, Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor, 4GB Memory, 320 GB hard drive2 was being offered for $499 and a gallon ProForce Pine Cleaner and Deodorizer was going for $4.58.

  • New president named at Home Depot Canada

    ATLANTA - The Home Depot announced that Aaron Carmack has been promoted to president, The Home Depot Canada, effective Jan. 31.  Carmack, the current regional VP of the Pac North region in the U.S., is replacing Annette Verschuren, who is leaving the company after nearly 15 years of service.

    New York City -- The Home Depot promoted Aaron Carmack to president of The Home Depot Canada.

    Carmack, currently regional VP of the Pac North region in the United States, on Jan. 31 replaces Annette Verschuren, who is leaving the home-improvement retailer after nearly 15 years.

  • Planalytics: Frigid temps and snow to up demand for winter goods

    Berwyn, Penn. -- Retailers are likely to experience high demand for winter goods during the upcoming week. Beginning this weekend and carrying through next week, virtually all of North America should prepare for below normal temperatures, according to Planalytics. Most locations east of the Rockies can expect temperatures to trend 10°F to 20°F colder than both normal and last year, with the main exception being the Southwest where temperatures will trend normal to slightly above normal.

  • Home Depot’s Menear honored with City of Hope award

    Los Angeles -- In recognition of his business and philanthropic achievements, The Home Depot’s executive VP merchandising, Craig Menear, will receive The Spirit of Life Award from City of Hope’s Hardware/Homebuilding Industry group. Menear will be honored Jan. 11, at a reception, at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Fla., by colleagues and industry members. The day will begin with a golf tournament event that supports City of Hope’s lifesaving research, education and treatment programs for cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
