  • Former Dick’s, Kmart exec to lead education company

    RIVER GROVE, Ill. — Follett Corporation has named former Dick’s Sporting Goods executive Don Germano as president and chief operating officer of the Follett Higher Education Group. He replaces Tom Christopher, who announced plans to retire, effective August 30.

    Christopher was president and chief operating officer of the Follett Higher Education Group for nearly 12 years.

  • Ackman quits J.C. Penney board

    New York -- J.C. Penney Co. announced that activist investor and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has resigned from the board of directors of the company, effective Aug. 12. His resignation comes in the wake of a very public and heated campaign in which he called for the ouster of Penney interim CEO Myron Ullman and chairman Thomas Engibous.

  • Office Depot tries to make peace with Starboard

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot is extending an olive branch to its largest shareholder, Starboard Value LLP, to settle a dispute about who should serve on the company’s board of directors. 

    In a press release, Office Depot said that if CEO Selection Committee members Tom Colligan and Marsha Evans are re-elected, the company would immediately invite to its board of directors any of the three Starboard nominees recommended by proxy advisory firms Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and Glass Lewis who are not elected.

  • Ackman nightmare over at J.C. Penney

    J.C. Penney said activist investor Bill Ackman resigned from the company’s board and was replaced by former Federated Department Stores executive Ron Tysoe.

  • Gilt names COO

    New York -- Online shopping site Gilt has appointed Tracey Weber as COO, effective Sept. 3.  She will have responsibility for many of Gilt's operations, including Gilt City, international, customer service, and merchandise planning, as well as oversee several new strategic initiatives.
       
    Weber joins Gilt from Citibank, where she was the managing director, North America Internet and mobile and global product.

  • Online shopping site appoints new COO

    NEW YORK — Gilt, an online shopping website, has appointed Tracey Weber as chief operating officer, effective September 3. Weber joins Gilt from Citibank, where she was the managing director, North America Internet and mobile and global product.  

    In her role as chief operating officer, Weber will have responsibility for many of Gilt's operations, including Gilt City, international, customer service and merchandise planning; she will also oversee several new strategic initiatives. Weber will report directly to CEO Michelle Peluso.

  • Pep Boys appoints new HR chief

    PHILADELPHIA — Pep Boys, a leading automotive aftermarket service and retail chain, announced the appointment of Jim Flanagan as chief human resources officer, effective August 26. 

  • Brooks Brothers names new CMO, COO and CIO

    New York -- Brooks Brothers has named Vivien Kronengold as the company’s executive VP and chief marketing officer, a newly created position. The company also appointed Mauro Calderan as COO. Calderon previously served as senior VP, distribution and logistics.

    The appointments come less than a week after Brooks Brothers president and COO Diane Ellis was named CEO at the Limited.
