  • ICSC: Holiday sales to increase 4%; strongest gain in three years

    New York -- The International Council of Shopping Centers forecasts a 4.0% increase in sales during the November-December holiday shopping period, the strongest gain in three years, amid positive economic signals. Total holiday shopping sales at shopping centers is estimated to be $488.6 billion in the same period.

  • President Obama nominates Giant Eagle exec to USPS board of governors

    President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate Giant Eagle executive chairman David Shapira to the role of governor for the board of governors of the United States Postal Service.
     

  • Toys’R’Us appoints former Staples exec managing director, Central Europe

    Toys“R”Us has appointed Michael Melzer as managing director, Central Europe. He will be responsible for the company’s business operations throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland, including 91 stores and four e-commerce sites, as well as the approximately 2,200 employees in these countries, and report to Wolfgang Link, president, Europe.

  • Premier Store Fixtures names CEO

    Hauppauge, N.Y. - Premier Store Fixtures, a provider of interior fixtures for the retail industry, has appointed Richard Winter as CEO and a member of the board of directors. Winter has more than 25 years of senior executive experience in the store fixtures industry, including serving as the sector president of The Marmon Group’s retail services division.

    Leading payment technology and services company First Data has launched First Data Salutes, a company-wide military engagement strategy aimed at helping the veteran-owned business community and service members and their families who are making the transition to civilian careers.

  • iWallet bolsters board

    iWallet Corporation, a secure luxury “techcessories” company, has appointed three new members to its board of directors including Carl Rosen, former COO of Bulova, then international consumer luxury goods company; Charles Ng, VP of sales at NEXT Biometrics and the former North American director of sales for Fingerprint Cards and sales director for Authentec, a biometric fingerprint technology; and Anthony Durkacz, EVP of the investment firm First Republic Capital Corporation.

  • Sports Authority gears up for holiday season

    Sports Authority plans to hire 3,500 temporary employees across the country to meet consumer demand during the 2014 holiday season.

    All Sports Authority locations will begin hiring this month and will continue until December. The specialty retailer added that it plans to convert hundreds of seasonal workers into permanent staff after the holidays.

  • Brixmor names JLL Retail exec as VP of leasing

    New York - Brixmor Property Group, owner and operator of the largest wholly-owned portfolio of grocery-anchored shopping centers in the U.S., has named Christopher Ralph as VP leasing and will be based in Orlando, Florida. In this role, Ralph will oversee the leasing at Brixmor’s 58 community and neighborhood centers in Florida, which collectively total nine million-sq.-ft..
