  • Leadership shakeup, layoffs at Etsy

    There’s been a couple of change in the C-suite of hand-made goods marketplace Etsy.   The company said chairman and CEO Chad Dickerson is stepping down, to be succeeded as CEO by board member Josh Silverman, effective May 3. Fred Wilson, who has served as lead independent director of the Etsy board, since October 2014, will succeed Dickerson as chairman.

  • Inland’s Goodwin gets lifetime service award

    Daniel Goodwin, chairman and CEO of Inland Real Estate Group, was presented with the first Lifetime Achievement Award ever bestowed by Illinois Realtors, a century-old trade association with 44,000 members.   “Dan Goodwin is an example of that rare person who excels not only as a businessman, but also as a compassionate leader who is interested in helping others realize the dream of property ownership,” said Doug Carpenter, president of Illinois Realtors.  
  • Sheetz on hiring spree

    A fast-growing convenience store operator has announced a major hiring initiative.   Sheetz said it is looking to hire more than 3,400 employees companywide. The hiring initiative aims to increase Sheetz's total employee count and number of full-time positions by creating and filling jobs at stores throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina.   
  • Albertsons names longtime vet Jewel-Osco division president

    Albertsons’ Jewel-Osco division has a new executive at the helm.     The company has named Doug Cygan division president, effective immediately, overseeing 186 stores in Ill., Ind. and Iowa. Cygan was most recently Jewel-Osco’s VP marketing and merchandising. He joined the company in April 1980 as a part-time clerk, staying with the chain as he completed his education and worked his way up through the ranks.  He became VP marketing and merchandising in 2011.   
  • Report: Boxed to create robotics-run warehouse

    While some industry observers fear that robots will replace retail workers, Boxed is embracing the technology.   The online retailer, which sells consumer packaged goods in bulk, announced on Thursday, April 27, that it will completely automate its fulfillment center in Union, New Jersey, with robotics — a move that will contribute to driving reliable profits, according to Business Insider.  
  • Longtime Nordstrom exec joins DSW in big role

    A veteran Nordstrom executive has been named COO of DSW.    The footwear retailer appointed Michele Love as executive VP and COO, effective May 1, 2017. With responsibility for marketing and digital, she will oversee all aspects of customer engagement, driving messaging across all touchpoints.  
  • Ace Hardware streamlines East Coast distribution operations

    In a major restructuring of its eastern U.S. distribution network, Ace Hardware Corp. intends to open a new 1.1. million-sq.-ft. Retail Support Center in Pennsylvania while closing a handful of other facilities.   The moves will play out over the next 24 months.
