Kohl’s kicks off Black Friday early, closing stores Thanksgiving Day

Kohl's is launching its 2024 Black Friday promotion.

Kohl’s Inc. is the latest retailer to get a jump on its Black Friday holiday promotion and to announce stores will be shuttered for Thanksgiving.

Starting Friday, Nov. 8 and running through Sunday, Nov. 10, the "Kohl’s Black Friday Early Access" event provides in-store and online discounts on select brands and products in categories including fine jewelry (70%), toys (50%), beauty (50%), holiday home décor (40%) and apparel (40-60%).

In addition, all shoppers can take 15% off their qualifying purchase during the three-day event and earn $15 in Kohl’s Cash rewards for every $50 spent Nov. 8 and $10 for every $50 spent Nov. 9-10.

Kohl’s said it will once again be closed on Thanksgiving Day (Thu., Nov. 28) to give associates time with their families, and will open store on Friday, Nov. 29 at 5 a.m.

Black Friday week deals

The retailer also revealed a sneak peek of the ad for its six-day Black Friday week event Sun., Nov. 24 – Fri., Nov. 29, which includes special limited-time doorbusters beginning online Thu., Nov. 28 and in-store on Fri., Nov. 29. 

Throughout the week, discounts will be offered in product categories including electronics, tech, toys, Sephora at Kohl’s, home decor, small electrics, jewelry, and apparel.

In addition, Kohl’s is again hosting a Black Friday sweepstakes featuring more than $1 million in prizes to be given away across stores nationwide. The first 200 customers that visit each of Kohl’s more than 1,100 stores on Black Friday, Nov. 29, will receive an instant win game piece revealing prizes like instantly redeemable Kohl’s Cash, Sephora at Kohl’s gift cards, Lego toys, Samsonite luggage, Draper James holiday gift boxes, and more. 

One winner will receive a family beach vacation to Florida. No purchase is necessary.

Kohl’s builds on holiday promotions

Kohl’s previously said it will have nearly twice the number of gift options this year, including through what it calls the Kohl’s Value Gift Shop, which will feature stocking stuffers and grab-and-go gifts with prices as low as $3, $5 and $8. The majority of gifts will be under $5, and hundreds will be under $10. 

Kohl’s stores will also provide "inspiration and solutions for gift givers," with more curated gifting displays throughout the store and gift sets across categories. 

Other already announced holiday offerings include 50% more seasonal decor items this year, including a prominent front-of-store positioning and a new in-store Kohl’s Tree Farm featuring an expanded assortment of trees, ornaments, lighting, and inflatables. The retailer is also increasing its gift-giving essentials offerings with nearly 50% more holiday cards and gift wrap.

Based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl’s operates more than 1,100 stores in 49 states, as well as an e-commerce site and consumer app.
