Lori's Gifts is rolling out cashierless shopping in hospitals.

A leading operator of hospital gift shops is opening checkout-free stores in select locations across the U.S.

Lori’s Gifts is rolling out the AiFi camera-led spatial intelligence platform to support a first-of-its-kind cashierless shopping experience in select hospitals. The AifFi platform tracks people and objects through space to enable autonomous checkout, as well as safety and compliance, consumer behavior analysis, dwell time reports, and out-of-stock notifications.

As a result, Lori's Gifts is now integrating cashierless store locations where customers have 24/7 access. The AiFi AI solution automatically detects and tracks items selected and charges the customer’s card upon exit.

The retailer expects this technology will help reduce wait times, optimize transactions, and ensure visitors can quickly find what they need.

"At Lori’s Gifts, our vision is to be a trusted place for joy and support, and this partnership with AiFi helps us fulfill that vision in a meaningful way,” said Jeff Gloor, president of Lori's Gifts. "By leveraging their AI-powered technology, we’re able to keep stores open 24 hours a day, offering convenience when needed most. This accessibility ensures that nurses or visitors can find specific items they need at any time, without disruption. Together with AiFi, we are continuing to evolve and meet the unique needs of the hospital communities we serve, making it easier than ever to bring comfort and care."

Lori’s Gifts has fully integrated AiFi’s platform with its existing systems, including real-time syncing of sales data into its ERP solution for efficient inventory and accounting operations. The stores also feature iPads that can capture customer email addresses and provide digital receipts.

"Hospitals are among the most time-sensitive environments, and our autonomous store solutions are designed to remove friction and offer real-time access to essentials," said Steve Carlin, CEO of AiFi. "The team at Lori’s Gifts shares our commitment to creating seamless, accessible retail experiences, and together, we’re making it easier for hospital visitors and staff to find what they need—anytime, with zero friction. This collaboration represents a meaningful step in expanding the impact of cashierless technology where it can truly make a difference."

Hospital stores go cashierless

Hospitals have been investigating the potential of frictionless checkout to streamline shopping in what is often a busy and stressful environment. St. Joseph’s/Candler's Candler Hospital in Savannah, Ga. has a SmartBytes market equipped with Amazon Just Walk Out technology, including a payment solution designed for healthcare institutions called "badge pay" which lets staff pay for food and beverages purchases by scanning their employee badge.

And a hospital pop-up store operated by 7-Eleven at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, the flagship hospital of Children’s Health, allows hospital staff to use their employee badges to pay for merchandise as well as enables customers to scan and pay for their purchases using the 7-Eleven app on their mobile phones.

Lori’s Gifts will expand AiFi’s autonomous shopping technology to more hospital locations in the coming months.
