FAT Brands CEO returns to role after two year departure

    Andy Wiederhorn

The former CEO of a casual dining parent company is returning to his position after criminal charges against him were dropped.

Andy Wiederhorn has returned to the helm of FAT Brands, the parent company of Fatburger, Johnny Rockets, Round Table Pizza and other restaurant concepts, after stepping aside in March 2023. Weiderhorn was under investigation by both the Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over $47 million in payments from FAT Brands to the Wiederhorn family. On July 30, the White House directly fired the career federal prosecutor who was handling the case, according to NBC News.

Effective today, FAT Brands’ co-CEOs who led the company during Wiederhorn’s absence will return to their previous roles. Ken Kuick will be exclusively focused on his roles as CFO of FAT Brands and Twin Hospitality Group Inc., and Taylor Wiederhorn, Andy’s son, will continue to serve as chief development officer.

“I am grateful to both Ken and Taylor for their time as Co-CEO’s where they were instrumental in accelerating growth across our portfolio of brands,” said Andy Wiederhorn, CEO and chairman of FAT Brands Inc. “I am thrilled to step back into the CEO role, building on our momentum and delivering on our strategic priorities – organic expansion, targeted acquisitions, increasing our manufacturing facility’s capacity and focusing on our balance sheet – to reinforce our position as a global leader in the restaurant industry.”

FAT Brands currently owns 18 restaurant brands: Round Table Pizza, Fatburger, Marble Slab Creamery, Johnny Rockets, Fazoli’s, Twin Peaks, Great American Cookies, Smokey Bones, Hot Dog on a Stick, Buffalo’s Cafe & Express, Hurricane Grill & Wings, Pretzelmaker, Elevation Burger, Native Grill & Wings, Yalla Mediterranean and Ponderosa and Bonanza Steakhouses.

It will be made available to Walmart customers as well as to consumers across the U.S.

Etsy rolls out new seller AI tools

    Etsy AI tools

Etsy continues equipping sellers on its platform with artificial intelligence features.

The online retailer is introducing two new optional AI tools designed to help sellers manage their shop and connect with shoppers at scale while maintaining personalization.

    Bulk edit

If an Etsy seller has eligible listings in English that AI determines could benefit from an update, they will see the bulk edit tool in their search visibility dashboard. This solution reviews existing titles, tags, attributes, descriptions, first photos, and reviews to recommend titles that can build buyer confidence when browsing and deciding what to buy.

Sellers can update one or many listings at once, accepting suggestions or customizing them with real-time feedback to guide edits.

    Writing assistant

This tool uses relevant information from a seller’s shop, like item descriptions and similar messages they have sent in the past, to craft responses to customers in their voice. Sellers can edit, personalize, or start responses from scratch.

The writing assistant is available to select English-speaking U.S. Etsy sellers, but the company plans on rolling it out to more sellers over time.

    Behind-the-scenes tools

Etsy also uses AI tools behind the scenes that work within its search, recommendations, and shopping features:

    • Search & image matching: AI-based tools help match items to the right buyers through image-based searches and enhanced ranking.
    • Review feature tags: Shoppers can now see quick, AI-powered highlights from seller reviews. These highlights surface popular themes and sentiments from real reviews, like “Fast shipping,” “Gift-worthy” or “Very well made.”
    • Estimated delivery dates: Etsy uses shipping history and carrier data, such as recent transit times, to calculate estimated, AI-based delivery dates.
