DoorDash expands delivery robot efforts with new partnership
A global on-demand delivery platform continues growing its presence in the robotics space.
Los Angeles residents ordering through the DoorDash app from participating retailers may have their order delivered by an autonomous delivery robot from Serve Robotics, which was spun off from Uber Technologies as an independent company in 2021.
According to DoorDash, this partnership reflects its broader multi-modal delivery platform strategy, which integrates human drivers, drones and autonomous robots in an effort to meet increasing demand while lowering emissions and traffic congestion.
“At DoorDash, we’re building a multi-modal logistics platform where Dashers, autonomous robots, and drones each play a role in making deliveries faster, more efficient, and more sustainable,” said Harrison Shih, head of product for DoorDash Labs. “Partnering with Serve gives our platform even more delivery options, expanding how we fulfill orders for consumers and merchants alike.”
In one example of this strategy, DoorDash recently launched "Dot," an in-house-developed autonomous robot built to travel on bike lanes, roads, sidewalks and driveways that is specifically designed for local delivery.
And in April 2025, DoorDash expanded a pilot its international arm Wolt had been running in Helsinki, Finland with emissions-free Coco Robotics sidewalk delivery robots to Los Angeles and Chicago. Meanwhile, rival on-demand delivery platform Uber Eats has been piloting Coco Robotics sidewalk robots in both Miami and Los Angeles, and is also conducting several other robotic delivery pilots.
DoorDash also recently began allowing select local consumers in Christianburg, Va. to order eligible menu items from Wendy’s and have them delivered via drones from Wing, the on-demand drone delivery provider powered by Google parent company Alphabet.

This pilot followed a test program DoorDash and Wing launched in Australia in 2022 and has since expanded to three locations with over 60 participating retailers, marking the first time that Wing integrated its drone delivery service within another on-demand delivery marketplace.
In addition, the new partnership builds on Serve’s robotic delivery pilots with the Uber Eats subsidiary of Uber and food service retailers including Shake Shack.
"We’re thrilled to join forces with DoorDash to help bring the future of delivery to life," said Dr. Ali Kashani, co-founder and CEO of Serve Robotics. "Serve has long been a leader in autonomous delivery, and this partnership allows us to serve more customers. By teaming up with DoorDash, we’re accelerating our vision to make sustainable, reliable robotic delivery available in every neighborhood across the U.S."
