Shake Shack expands robotic delivery partnership with Uber Eats
Select Shake Shack customers in New Jersey may find themselves receiving deliveries from futuristic "personnel."
The fast-casual restaurant chain is collaborating with the Uber Eats delivery subsidiary of Uber Technologies to deploy autonomous delivery robots from a store location in Jersey City, N.J. The program is an extension of a sidewalk delivery robot initiative the two companies initially launched in Los Angeles in 2024 and then expanded to Atlanta in June 2025.

Those delivery offerings utilize autonomous delivery robots from Serve Robotics, which was spun off from Uber as an independent company in 2021. In its latest automated delivery pilot, Shake Shack and Uber Eats are rolling out robots from Avride.
"We’re thrilled to team up with Avride as we continue our work with Uber Eats to bring autonomous delivery to even more customers," said Steph So, chief growth officer at Shake Shack. "This partnership gives our fans in Jersey City a fun, innovative new way to enjoy their favorite Shack classics, making it easier than ever to get the food they love."
When customers order from Shake Shack’s participating Jersey City location, or other participating restaurants on the Uber Eats app, they may be eligible for robot delivery. A notice that reads “autonomous vehicles may deliver your order” will appear on the restaurant’s Uber Eats storefront when the service is available.
"We’re excited to make it even easier for people in Jersey City to get Shake Shack with the help of Avride’s delivery robots," said Megan Jensen, global head of autonomous delivery operations, Uber. "Autonomous delivery is a fun, innovative way to receive your favorites from Uber Eats, brought right to your doorstep — making every meal feel a little more special."
Since the original Shake Shack location opened in 2004 in New York City’s Madison Square Park, the company has expanded to more than 550 locations system-wide, including over 350 in 34 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, and more than 195 international locations including London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Mexico City, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo and Seoul.
Uber Eats leverages Uber’s technology and logistics capabilities to partner with 825,000 retailers in more than 11,000 cities globally, with an average delivery time the company says is under 30 minutes.
