  • Wayfair makes furniture shopping online even easier

    Online shoppers looking for a sofa in that perfect shade of leather will enjoy new technology being rolled out by Wayfair.

    The leading furniture e-commerce retailer announced that, in partnership with tech solutions provider roOomy, high-resolution image renderings based on 3D product models will be available on DwellStudio and Birch Lane. Now, customers shopping on these sites will be able to experiment with multiple textures and fabrics, and see 360-degree views to find the perfect pieces of furniture for their home.

    Boston -- Online home furnishings retailer Wayfair is losing less money than before and gaining new customers at a rapid pace.

    The retailer reported a loss of $19.3 million for the second quarter, ended June 30, down from a loss of $28 million, in the year-ago period.
     
    Revenue increased to $491.8 million, up 66.4% year over year. Direct retail revenue, consisting of sales generated primarily through the sites of Wayfair’s five brands, increased to $440.3 million, up 80.8% year over year.

    Hot home furnishings retailer Wayfair has outgrown its chief technology officer, who also happens to be one of the company's co-founders.

    So the retailer has hired Jeremy Delinsky to be the company’s new chief technology officer.

    Delinsky joins Wayfair with more than a decade of leadership experience, formerly serving as CTO and, most recently, chief product officer (CPO) at athenahealth. Delinsky will report directly to Steve Conine, Wayfair’s co-founder and co-chairman.

  • Wayfair furnishes a narrower loss

    E-commerce home furnishings company Wayfair continues to lose money, but not as much as analysts had expected.

    The company announced it posted a loss of 18 cents per share in the fourth quarter, below the 28-cent loss analysts forecasted. Wayfair generated $1.3 billion in net revenue last year, up 44% over 2013. Sales in its direct-retail segment, which consists of sales from five key brands, surged to $347 million as the number of active customers increased by 54%.

    The retailer plans to integrate Sherwin-Williams’ color matching technology throughout the wayfair.com shopping experience, allowing shoppers to browse paint colors alongside more than 2 million products in furniture, décor and bedding.
