  • Sears Q4 loss narrows but sales down; REIT to raise $2 billion

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings Co. on Thursday reported its 11th consecutive quarterly loss, posting a loss of $159 million for the fourth quarter, down from loss of $358 in the year-ago period, amid cost reductions.

    The struggling chain saw its losses for the full year widen to $1.7 billion from $1.4 billion, marking its fourth straight year of decline. Total long-term debt rose to $3.2 billion from $2.9 billion a year earlier.

  • Sears/Kmart: We’re still in business, growing?

    Sears Holdings continues to lose money –- lots of it –- and same store sales declined again during the holidays, but the severity of the company’s losses have diminished, which has Chairman and CEO Edward Lampert believing further improvement is coming as the company transforms to what he calls “a leading integrated membership-focused company.”  
  • Kmart re-branding some stores as K-Fresh

    While Kmart has been closing many of its stores as it seeks to restructure the company, the retailer has quietly launched a pilot program to re-brand itself as K-Fresh.

    The Chillicothe Gazette reports that the Kmart on North Bridge Street in Chillicothe, Ohio, has scaled back its hours and grocery offerings in preparation for its switch from a 24-hour supercenter to the retail chain's new K-Fresh concept.

    New York -- The Kmart store in Chillicothe, Ohio, has scaled back its hours and grocery offerings in preparation for its switch from a 24-hour supercenter to the retail chain's new K-Fresh concept, according to a report by the Chillicothe Gazette.

    The newspaper reports that the K-Fresh concept has been piloted at two stores, one in suburban Chicago and another in Hawaii.

  • Nordstrom, Trader Joe’s tops in customer satisfaction; overall index declines

    Ann Arbor, Mich. - Customer satisfaction with retail is down for the first time in four years. According to a report by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), all brick-and-mortar retail categories show weakening or flat customer satisfaction for the fourth quarter of 2014.  Internet retail satisfaction, however, is up from the same quarter in 2013.
