  • Survey: Petsmart, Amazon lead in customer experience

    Waban, Mass. - PetSmart and Amazon.com deliver the best customer experience in the retail industry. According to the 2015 Temkin Experience Ratings, an annual ranking of companies based on a survey of 10,000 U.S. consumers, PetSmart and Amazon.com tied for the top spot, each scoring 82%, which put them both in fourth place overall out of 293 companies across 20 industries.

    Walgreens came in a close third with a rating of 81% and a ranking of eighth, while Bed Bath & Beyond, Lowe's, and Costco all earned 79% and tied for 19th place overall.

  • Ohio Valley Mall grows its tenant lineup

    St. Clairsville, Ohio -- Ulta Beauty and Sincerely Yogurt will both open at Ohio Valley Mall this year. Sincerely Yogurt will debut first, opening a 1,275-sq.-ft. location late spring 2015. Ulta Beauty will open a 9,700-sq.-ft. store near Sears by early fall.  The construction of the new Ulta will introduce a new, exterior doorway providing direct access from the mall parking area.

    Owned by Cafaro Company, the recently renovated Ohio Valley Mall is located on I-70, Exit 218-Mall Road, in St. Clairsville, Ohio.  
     

  • DSW to open at Pembroke Mall

    Virginia Beach, Va. -- DSW Shoe Warehouse will open a new store at Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The retailer will be taking 15,040 sq. ft. of an existing Sears store.

    The lease negotiations were handled on behalf of the tenant by Divaris Real Estate, Inc.

    DSW will open fourth quarter 2015 and will be joined by Nordstrom Rack and REI in 2016.
     
     

  • H&M expands in Texas with Golden Triangle Mall location

    Denton, Texas -- Fashion-forward retailer H&M will open a new store at Golden Triangle Mall, in Denton, Texas. The 23,000-sq.-ft. location is slated to open fall 2015, bringing its Texas store count to 15.

    Golden Triangle Mall has recently undergone a redevelopment, with new entrances and facades, center court, performance area and other enhancements. The 765,000-sq.-ft. enclosed mall is owned by GTM Development, a partnership between The McHerring Group and Cencor Realty Services, and is anchored by J.C. Penney, Dillards, Macy’s and Sears.

  • Sears Canada leases back three stores

    Toronto - Sears Canada Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement with Concord Pacific Group of Companies to sell and lease back three of its properties for $140 million. The after-tax proceeds, including adjustments, will be approximately $130 million.  

    The locations include store space and adjacent property located at the Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby, British Columbia, Cottonwood Mall in Chilliwack, British Columbia and North Hill Shopping Centre in Calgary, Alberta. The transaction is scheduled to close on or about June 8, 2015.

  • Retailers Embrace In-Store Pickup Amid Rising Shipping Costs

    The onset of 2015 marked a huge change in shipping costs, and as a result retailers are struggling to find ways to maintain their bottom lines. As of Jan. 1, packages are now being evaluated by their “dimensional weight,” or volume, instead of determining price by weight alone. Experts say that the when combined with other annual rate hikes and surcharges, the resulting average rate increases will be as high as 30% or more.

  • SpartanNash names ex-Walgreens exec as president

    Grocery distributor and retailer SpartanNash is looking to a former Walgreens executive to help drive growth.

    Derek Jones, currently SpartanNash’s EVP, food distribution, has been promoted to president, wholesale and distribution operations. He will oversee the entire supply chain, including military supply chain operations.
