  • Tech Bytes: Data Security: Two Don’ts and One Do

    Data security has been a hot topic in the world of retail IT lately. Based on some recent retail data security-related news items, I have compiled a list of two don’ts and one do when it comes to securing your data.

    Don’t outsource whole portions of your e-commerce platform

  • Lowe’s Canada to add 14 stores

    Toronto – Lowe’s Canada is in growth mode. In addition to completing the acquisition of 12 former Target sites, the company also plans to open two more locations in Ontario, which will bring its total store count to 54 from 40.

  • Target decks the dorm

    Minneapolis – Target Corp. is decking the dorm with a new application aimed at students preparing to go back to college this fall. Target’s Made for U College Styler is an interactive tool that assesses a college student’s personal style and creates tailored room designs they can shop and customize via phone, tablet or desktop.  
  • Target centralizes security efforts

    Minneapolis – Target Corp. is taking a centralized approach to security to help ensure that data breaches such as the one which inflicted serious financial and branding damage in late 2013 do not happen again. Target has opened a Cyber Fusion Center (CFC) that brings Target’s key information security teams together.  
  • Target does back-to-school very differently

    Target is always trying to appeal to a younger, hipper crowd, and its 2015 back-to-school marketing strategy is no exception.

    The retailer has launched a new digital tool, Target Made For U College Styler, that allows the digitally inclined college crowd to design and shop for their dorm rooms and apartments.

  • Moms can get tooth wipes at Wal-Mart

    Bentonville, Ark. – Busy moms who need tooth wipes, or maybe more well-known baby items, have a new resource in Wal-Mart. In a post on the official Wal-Mart blog, Diana Marhsall, VP of baby for Wal-Mart U.S., says the retailer is expanding the products and services for moms (or anyone else) shopping for baby needs.  
  • Report: Target says controversial shirt not meant to offend

    Minneapolis – Target Corp. is getting some social media heat about the message on a controversial T-shirt it is selling, and says no offense was ever intended. According to the Associated Press, in a written statement Target said the black women’s shirt with the word “Trophy” written across the front in bold lettering is not meant to demean women.
