Minneapolis – An unconfirmed executive departure at Target Corp. will have major ramifications on its digital and mobile retail operation if the report is accurate.
According to Re/Code, Alan Wizemann, VP of product for Target.com and mobile, is leaving the company for unspecified reasons.
Multiple sources indicated Wizemann had told his employees he would be leaving the company as soon as July 28. Wizemann’s LinkedIn profile still shows him holding his position at Target as of press time, and Target declined comment in the article.
Wizemann began working with Target as a consultant on its Cartwheel coupon app in late 2012, and assumed his current position on an interim basis in January 2014, taking it full-time in May 2014.
Wizemann reports to Jason Goldberger, president of Target.com. Under the leadership of the duo, Target’s digital sales rose 38% in the first quarter of fiscal 2015, although they still represent only about 3% of total sales. In addition, Cartwheel has gone on to generate more than $1 billion in revenue since Wizemann helped overhaul its development, and he was one of two people who oversaw the integration of Target’s mobile app with Apple Pay in October 2014.
Wizemann was something of a serial entrepreneur before joining Target full-time, founding at least five technology start-ups since 1999. The most recent was social e-commerce platform ShopIgniter Inc., founded in 2007.
