  • Gap Q4 profit beats forecasts

    San Fransciso -- Gap credited rising sales abroad, online and at its Banana Republic and Old Navy chains for helping to boost its fourth-quarter net income rise 3.7%, beating analysts expectations. However, the chain issued an annual profit forecast that fell short of expectations, saying its operating profits would be squeezed as it grapples with soaring costs of cotton and other raw materials.

    Gap also announced that it plans to buy back $2 billion in shares, on top of recent repurchases totaling $2.6 billion.

  • Survey reveals top apparel store picks

    According to a new survey from customer intelligence firm, Market Force Information, The Children's Place is consumers' top pick for young children's (10 and younger) apparel when the votes are indexed for the number of stores. The Children's Place earned 17% of the votes, while Gymboree ranked second (13%), and Kohl's and Carter's tied for third with 12%. For children 11 and older, Aeropostale was ranked favorite retailer with 17% of the votes, followed closely by Kohl's (16%) and then Old Navy (10%).

  • Retailers post strong November sales, apparel a top-performer

    New York City -- Retailers nearly across the board reported a strong start to the holiday season as their November sales were enhanced by aggressive discounting that started early in the month. Same-store sales rose 6% in November,  above the estimated growth of 3.6% and the year-ago gain of 0.6%, according to 27 retailers tracked by Thomson Reuters. 

  • Bed Bath & Beyond to open at Shops at Tevis

    Winchester, Va. -- Bethesda, Md.-based Sax Realty said that Bed Bath & Beyond has leased 27,000 sq. ft. of space at Shops at Tevis in Winchester, Va.

    Bed Bath & Beyond, which is slated to open in spring 2011, joins Borders Books, Hhgregg, Old Navy, Ross and Michael’s at the center.

  • Gap’s China stores debut along with an online retail store

    Shanghai, China -- Gap announced late Wednesday that its first four wholly owned Gap stores have debuted in China, along with the launch of its online retailer store gap.cn.

    Each store will house all Gap collections: Gap, GapKids, Baby Gap and Gap Body.
