  • Retail circular advertising trends, March 2016

    Market Track compared retail circular advertising in March 2016 vs. March 2015 and noted trends occurring across top retail chains.

    Lowe’s Home Improvement had denser March print circulars with twice the ads per page and nearly 80 additional ads per drop. Lowe’s shifted the Spring Black Friday sale to the 3/31 drop; up from first week of May 2015.

    Home depot did not counter this shift through print, but promoted Spring Black Friday on their website.

  • Thor Equities Developing two projects in Houston Texas

    Houston -- Thor Equities announced Lowe’s Companies will build a 100,000-sq.-ft. home improvement store at The Shoppes at Cinco Ranch located in Katy, Texas. The company is in the process of developing the 35-acre property, which will include retail stores and restaurant spaces. The property is anchored by Walgreens, with Kroger and Academy Sports + Outdoors located across the street.

  • Lumber Liquidator woes continue in Q4

    Things were worse than expected for Lumber Liquidators in the fourth quarter, which experienced decreased customer activity that was likely due to cancer-related concerns over its laminate flooring.

    Net sales for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2015 were down 13.7% year-over-year to $234.8 million, including a comparable store net sales decline of 17.2% that was based on a 15.6% decrease in customer count and a 1.6% decrease in the average sale.

  • Lumber Liquidators taps Lowe’s veteran as COO

    Lumber Liquidators on Monday announced the appointment of Dennis Knowles as COO, effective March 1, 2016.

    Knowles has served in store operations leadership roles at Lowe's Companies since 2001, most recently as chief store operations officer, and prior to that as senior VP of store operations support and specialty sales and its senior VP of store operations for Lowe's West and South Central Divisions, respectively.

    Lowe's had previously made an unsolicited bid on the company more than three years ago, but the substantially higher offer this time around was accepted by Rona's board.

  • Cracker Barrel CEO joins Lowe's board

    Lowe's has added a retail veteran to its board of directors who serves on the boards of Dollar General and Books-A-Million.

    Lowe's announced that Sandra B. Cochran, 57, has been appointed to its board of directors, effective immediately. The announcement brings Lowe's board of directors to 13 members, 12 of whom are independent.
