    New York City -- On the heels of a strong November, some department store retailers reported surprisingly weak December revenue. Results were impacted by a blizzard in the Northeast, which took a bite out of sales after Christmas.

    The results raised some worries that the holiday season might be less stellar than some had hoped. Still, much of Wall Street still predicts that November and December spending will show the largest annual increase since 2006.

  • SEC files lawsuit against former Carter’s exec over fraudulent discounts

    Atlanta - U.S. regulators have sued a former sales executive at Carter’s Inc., claiming that he caused the company to misstate earnings by hiding the cost of discounts given to a retailer. 

    According to a Monday report by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Joseph Elles induced Kohl’s Corp. to boost purchases from Carter’s from 2004 to March 2009 by granting unauthorized discounts that he didn’t disclose.

  • Kohl's expands Elle-branded line

    MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. - Kohl's and Lagardère Active have announced plans to expand the Elle-branded contemporary lifestyle collection into fashion jewelry and beauty. The Elle Bijoux jewelry collection and Elle-branded line of cosmetics will be available exclusively in Kohl’s stores nationwide and Kohls.com beginning spring 2012.

  • Kohl’s renews Simply Vera license early

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl's Corp. said Tuesday it has renewed its long-term license agreement to be the exclusive seller of Simply Vera Vera Wang clothing and other merchandise, and plans to expand the line into makeup.
