  • IBM: Retailers not meeting customer experience expectations

    Retailers have a way to go in satisfying their customers in several key areas.

    The IBM 2016 Global Customer Experience Index (CEI) evaluated 550 brick-and-mortar and pure-play retailers spanning eight different retail segments in 23 countries across the globe. This study revealed that the industry achieved an overall performance score of 40%, a failing grade, when measured against customer satisfaction criteria.

    Specialty retailer 1-800-Flowers.com operates across several banners and channels, and is trying to present as unified a customer experience as possible.

    1-800-Flowers has chosen the IBM Commerce on Cloud solution to ease the process of conducting transactions across all its brands, including Harry & David, Wolferman’s and Fannie May. The platform will also help deliver a seamless customer experience across the Web, mobile and call center channels.

  • Petco adds new leadership to accelerate growth plans

    Petco has added two key leaders to its executive ranks and expanded the role of its supply chain chief.

    The company announced that it has hired Jodi Watson as senior VP, Petco Direct, and Spencer Insolia as VP, Petco and president, Doctors Foster & Smith. The company has also named John Carcasi as senior VP, supply chain & merchandise planning, expanding his previous role to encompass all supply chain and inventory related activity across the company.

  • Best Buy adds Silicon Valley heft to board

    The board of directors at Best Buy Co. is losing a longtime board member and gaining a new voice with experience in forming relationships with top venture capitalists in Silicon Valley.

    The retailer announced that former CEO Brad Anderson will retire from the board of directors and that the company has appointed corporate venture capital leader Claudia Fan Munce to the board.Anderson will serve the remainder of his term through the end of the annual shareholder meeting on June 14. Munce will stand for election at that time.

  • North Face expands artificial intelligence engagement

    Specialty outdoor retailer The North Face is reportedly taking a desktop-based interactive online shopping experience it launched in December to a new platform. According to VentureBeat, The North Face is launching a mobile app that will let consumers find products using natural conversation to conduct searches and receive personalized recommendations. The app is scheduled to launch in April 2016.
