Atlanta-based Home Depot announced it has launched a new online community designed as a place where do-it-yourselfers can discuss home improvement projects and share their expertise with each other.

Atlanta -- For the first time ever, Home Depot will offer free shipping on 90,000 of the 100,000 items it offers online beginning on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, and running through Monday. Eligible items will be shipped for free via standard ground shipping.

"We know shipping is a large influence on where customers shop," said Hal Lawton, president of e-commerce and The Home Depot. "We made some improvements and changes to the site over the last year and we thought this would be a great way to attract new customers to site."

Naples, Fla. -- Beachwood, Ohio-based Developers Diversified Realty Corp. said that Hhgregg has joined Carillon Place, a 283,238-sq.-ft. community center in Naples, Fla., and Peach Street Square, a 676,245-sq.-ft. shopping center in Erie, Pa.

Joining national tenants Walmart Neighborhood Market, Bealls Outlet, T.J.Maxx, Ross Dress for Less and OfficeMax, Hhgregg opened a 36,459-sq.-ft. store at Carillon Place.

The 28,152-sq.-ft. Hhgregg store at Peach Street Square joins Lowe's, Home Depot, Kohl's, Cinemark and PetSmart.

Atlanta -- Home Depot reported Tuesday that it recorded higher-than-expected earnings in the third quarter, boosted by tighter cost controls.

The company’s net income rose to $834 million in the quarter ended Oct. 31, compared with net income of $689 million a year earlier.

Sales rose 1.4% to $16.60 billion, slightly above Wall Street expectations of $16.59 billion. Same-store sales at Home Depot's U.S. stores rose 1.5%. It was the chain’s fourth-straight quarterly gain after three years of declines
