  • Belk donates $19 million to charity in 2012

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Belk announced that the company, and its associates, customers and vendors contributed more than $19.3 million to local communities in the fiscal year ending Jan. 31. Of the total amount, Belk corporate dollars funded $6.2 million to more than 250 nonprofit organizations, with a focus on education, breast cancer research and awareness, and community strengthening.

  • Belk names former Family Dollar exec to new position of VP omni-channel

    Charlotte, N.C. -- Belk has named Dorlisa Flur to the newly created position of EVP omni-channel, reporting to John Belk, president and chief operating officer.

    Flur joins Belk after eight years at Family Dollar Stores, most recently as vice chair, strategy and chief administrative officer. Prior roles included chief merchandising officer and the EVP strategy and marketing. Prior to Family Dollar Stores, Flur spent her professional career at management consulting firm McKinsey and Company.

  • Former Family Dollar exec to head omni-channel efforts at Belk

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Belk has named Dorlisa Flur EVP omni-channel, reporting to John Belk, president and chief operating officer.

  • Disney Store takes Oracle’s Innovator of the Year award

    New York -- Disney Store was honored as Innovator of the Year at the 2012 Oracle Retail Excellence Awards. The awards were announced at the annual Oracle Retail CrossTalk event, held June 26-28, at Swissôtel, Chicago.

    Other Oracle award recipients included Urban Outfitters, in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Customer Experience,” and Abercrombie & Fitch, in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Business Performance.”

  • New executives named to NRF board

    NEW YORK — The National Retail Federation has announced the newest executives elected to serve on its board of directors. The announcement was made during NRF's 101st Annual Convention in New York.
    Each new board member will serve a three-year term. Macy’s Inc. chairman, president and CEO Terry Lundgren was re-elected to serve another full-year as  chairman of the NRF Board. 

    The new executives elected to serve on NRF board of directors include:

    • Thomas Belk, chairman and CEO, Belk Inc.

  • New promotions announced at Books-A-Million

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Books-A-Million announced that it has promoted Terrance Finley, formerly EVP/chief merchandising officer to president and COO of the company, effective immediately. Finley has served in his previous role since August 2009 and in various other capacities in the merchandising department since joining the company in 1992. Finley was appointed to the board of directors of Hibbett Sports Inc. in March 2008.

  • Belk selects Oracle Retail for merchandising system

    Redwood Shores, Calif. -- Belk department store said Tuesday that it has selected Oracle Retail Merchandising System to enable a seamless, non-channel view of the brand both in-store and online.

    “We are enabling next generation best practices that will center on optimizing the customer experience at both the store and ecommerce level,” said Mike Laurenti, CIO and executive VP, Belk.
