Belk Inc. Sign Change is Complete

9/12/2007

Charlotte, North Carolina

Belk Inc. is now prepared to present new developments and additions to their stores, after the retailer said yesterday that their sign change for their newly acquired stores has been completed.

Belk signs, which were installed and unveiled at all 25 Parisian department stores on Tuesday, mark a new beginning for the retailer. The Parisian stores, which were purchased from Saks Inc. last October, will retain its elegant shopping experience, but will become part of Belk’s exceptional reputation as the largest privately-owned retailing company in the United States.

The company has enhanced the Parisian locations with interior design and department expansion. Additionally, Belk will be using Parisian’s “item locator” system in their department stores as a way for associates to help customers locate the items they need. One other addition that has been set in place is the supplement of Belk Home Stores in sixteen of the former Parisian locations.

Belk, which has 300 stores in 16 southern states, will also be adding two "flagship" stores (both were formerly Parisian stores). The Summit in Birmingham, Ala., and Phipps Plaza in Atlanta, Ga., will join Belk's other flagship locations in SouthPark Mall, Charlotte, N.C., and Crabtree Valley Mall, Raleigh, N.C.

"This is an exciting time for Belk as we officially unite all of our stores under one name and mission," said Tim Belk, chairman and chief executive officer of Belk Inc. "We have spent the past year preparing for this and we're eager for our customers to see how we have combined the best of Parisian and Belk in order to continue our long-standing tradition of providing the best fashion, value, quality and service in all the markets we serve."
