  • Ikea continues Midwestern expansion

    With company representatives, Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, local officials and community leaders on hand, Ikea officially broke ground for its future St. Louis store scheduled to open fall 2015.

    The 380,000-sq.-ft. location with 1,300 parking spaces will be built along the northern side of Interstate-64 and Vandeventer Ave. on nearly 21 acres in the City’s Cortex Innovation District. The company has contracted with St. Louis-based S. M. Wilson & Co. to construct the project.

  • Ikea completes South Florida’s largest solar project

    Sweetwater, Fla. -- Ikea announced it had completed the installation of South Florida’s largest solar array, which will be plugged-in officially atop the future Miami-Dade Ikea store opening this summer in Sweetwater, Florida. Combined with rooftop arrays in Orlando, Tampa, and Sunrise, this fourth solar project will keep Ikea as the state’s largest non-utility solar owner.

  • Ikea wants to expand Canton, Mich., warehouse

    Ikea wants to expand the warehouse of its Detroit-area store in Canton, Mich. As a result, Ikea Canton, which opened June 2006 at 311,000 sq. ft., would grow to approximately 355,000 sq. ft. Initial utility work would begin this summer with actual construction starting in autumn. The store would remain open and operational during construction, maintaining its full product offering throughout the project’s completion in spring 2015.

  • The Home Depot makes changes to executive team

    The Home Depot has promoted Craig Menear to president, U.S. retail. Menear was previously EVP, merchandising, responsible for all merchandising departments and merchandising services and strategy; the company's supply chain network; global sourcing; vendor management; marketing; and online sales.

    In his new role, Menear will add responsibility for all U.S. store operations, with Marvin Ellison, EVP, U.S. stores, reporting to Menear.

  • Costco in U.K. teams up with Hertz in van share

    The Hertz Corp. and Costco in the U.K. have teamed up to bring short-term Hertz 24/7 van rental to Costco's members.

    The self-drive service operates at all 25 Costco warehouses in the U.K. Costco's members can hire a van from the warehouse car parks to drive their purchased items home immediately.

  • Ikea Group reports sustainability progress

    Leiden, Netherlands – Ikea Group reported progress in its “People and Planet Positive” sustainability strategy during fiscal year 2013. Highlights include:

    • Sold 22.4 million LED products, including 12.3 million LED bulbs.

    • Ikea Group has committed to own 137 wind turbines and installed 550,000 solar panels, taking the company closer to producing more renewable energy than the total energy it uses by 2020.

  • Prism Skylabs adds former Apple exec to team

    Prism Skylabs, a global leading cloud service provider, has hired former Apple executive Cliff Crosbie as SVP of managed services.

    Crosbie comes to Prism Skylabs after overseeing Apple’s global preferred reseller program. In his new role, he will be charged with growing Prism’s visual merchandising and auditing services

    “I’ve never seen a merchandising or analytics solution as effective as Prism Skylabs,” said Crosbie. “I couldn’t be more excited to join the team.”
     

  • IKEA will open in St. Louis in fall of 2015

    St. Louis, Mo. — IKEA plans to break ground on a three-level, 380,000-sq.-ft. building in midtown St. Louis this summer, according to Pace Properties, the broker selected by IKEA to help facilitate the chain’s expansion into the St. Louis market.

    The site is a 21-acre redeveloped tract at the intersection of Forest park and Vendeventer avenues within the 240-acre CORTEX Life Science District in midtown St. Louis.
