  • Bob’s Discount Furniture to open at former Fortunoff building

    Paramus, N.J. -- Ripco Real Estate has leased the former Fortunoff Building at 150 Route 17 northbound in Paramus, New Jersey, to Bob’s Discount Furniture.

    Without a permanent tenant since July 2009, Ripco was hired in mid-October 2014 to lease the property.  Five months later, through the efforts of Ripco’s New Jersey team, lead by Ira Kerner and Alison Horbach, the landlord has executed a lease with the discount retailer.

  • Ikea gets smart with furniture

    Conshohocken, Pa. – It may not be quite as cool as a shoe phone or a “Cone of Silence,” but Ikea is getting smart with furniture. Specifically, the retailer is releasing a line of “Smart Home” bedroom tables and lamps that will include built-in wireless charging spots for mobile devices.

  • Ikea selects VCC as GC for new store in Burbank

    Conshohocken, Pa. -- Ikea announced that it has chosen VCC to serve as construction manager both for the site work and store development of its new, larger store in Burbank, California. The new location will replace the chain’s existing Burbank store, which is also Ikea’s oldest store in the Western United States.

    Pending remaining approvals and permits, groundbreaking is on track for fall 2015 and store opening in spring 2017. Until the new, roomier store opens on the new site, customers can continue to shop at the existing Ikea Burbank.

  • Ikea ready to build its new Midwest hub

    Ikea is moving ahead with its strategy to expand its footprint in the Midwest by finalizing plans on a massive new distribution center in Illinois.

    The retailer has submitted final plans to the City of Joliet, Ill., that would advance the development of its previously approved main Midwestern distribution center.

  • Ikea taps R&O Construction for new Las Vegas store

    Conshohocken, Pa. -- Ikea has chosen R&O Construction to serve as construction manager for the site work and store development of its future 351,000-sq.-ft. location in Las Vegas.

    Pending remaining approvals, the project will continue on track for site work to commence this month, with groundbreaking during spring 2015. The store is scheduled to open in summer 2016.

  • Flat-profit Ikea to focus more on digital?

    Neither a surge in online sales nor a rebounding U.S. economy has been enough to lift Ikea, as the global furnishings retailer reported flat profits for 2014.

    Ikea, which operates 315 stores in 27 countries, said net profit for its fiscal year through August rose 0.4% from the previous year to $3.76 billion, far slower than the 3% growth the retailer logged last year, and its 8% growth in 2012.

    Analysts say the results show that IKEA is sticking to its strategy of lowering prices and broadening its e-commerce offering.

  • Ikea continues U.S. expansion with new Ohio store

    Columbus, Ohio -- Ikea announced that it is submitting plans to the City of Columbus, Ohio, for a store that would increase the Swedish furniture retailer’s Ohio presence to two stores. The newest store, located in the Polaris Centers of Commerce development about 15 miles north of downtown Columbus, is slated to open summer 2017.
