  • TJ Maxx and Saks Off Fifth tackle e-commerce

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Discount retailers TJ Maxx and Saks Off Fifth outlets plan to dive into e-commerce waters this year, according to reports. 

  • AAFES plans integrated e-commerce site

    Dallas – The Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has awarded a multi-year contract to SpeedFC to build and maintain an integrated e-commerce platform, replacing a proprietary legacy environment. The SpeedFC solution will incorporate Oracle’s ATG platform for back-end systems, Speed Order, the vendor’s proprietary system for order management, Omniture for analytics and Endeca for guided navigation, faceted search and search administration.

  • Massachusetts Oks sales tax holiday Aug. 10-11

    Boston – Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has signed a bill authorizing a sales tax holiday in Massachusetts for the upcoming weekend of Aug. 10. The bill gives consumers a one-time break on the state’s 6.25% sales tax on any ordinarily taxed retail items individually worth up to $2,500. The break does not extend to vehicles, motor boats, tobacco, meals and utilities.

    Massachusetts did not offer a sales tax holiday in 2009 but otherwise has designated one weekend in August as a sales tax holiday every year since 2004.

    OAKLAND, Calif. — Clorox sales results for the fourth quarter ended June 30 increased slightly, but despite being lower than anticipated, the company is ready to take on competitive pressures and increase its merchandising activity.

  • Taubman Prestige Outlets opens in St. Louis suburb

    Chesterfield, Mo. -- Taubman Centers announced the opening of Taubman Prestige Oulets, a new fashion outlet center, located in the western-St. Louis suburb of Chesterfield. The opening coincides with Missouri’s Tax-Free Weekend.

  • A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts opens in Port St. Lucie

    Berlin, N.J. — A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts will mark the opening of its new store at The Town Center at St. Lucie West with a week long grand opening celebration starting Aug. 4.

    The 21,000-sq.-ft. store carries an arts and crafts merchandise assortment with more than 40,000 items.

    A.C. Moore operates about 140 arts and craft stores along the East Coast.
     

     

  • Survey: Retailers cautiously optimistic for 2013 holiday

    San Jose, Calif. -- Retailers are cautiously optimistic about the 2013 holiday season, with 60% forecasting revenue growth in excess of 10%, in line with industry forecasts, according to a survey by Baynote, a provider of personalized customer experience solutions.

  • AAFES launches upgraded website

    Dallas -- The Army & Air Force Exchange Service announced a refresh of the organization’s official website, Shopmyexchange.com, in preparation for the key holiday selling season.
     
    Improvements include a new homepage layout design, complete with an updated visual look and industry-standard navigation; more product categories; easy-to-find links to specialty stores and online mall vendors; improved product pages; and easier checkout.
