    Creative toys that epitomize the Maker Movement (explained below), innovative "smart" playthings, and toys that make a "splash" are among the top toy trends of 2015, according to experts at the U.S. Toy Industry Association (TIA).

  • IBM: Online Valentine’s Day shopping rises

    Armonk, N.Y. - Consumers headed online for their Valentine’s Day shopping this year. According to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark data, during Valentine’s week (Feb. 7 – 13) online shopping rose 10.2% from the same period in 2014.

    In addition to overall sales, consumers ramped up their shopping efforts the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. Growth was seen in key verticals including:

  • Michaels expands work with Starlight

    Michaels is broadening is involvement with a global charity focused on improving the health of children and families.

    Michaels and its subsidiary Aaron Brothers have supported Starlight since 2010. The expanded partnership will increase the company's involvement through a wide range of programs that include corporate contributions, in-store promotions, customer donation programs, associate-driven events and giving, vendor engagement, product donations and more.

    There’s a reason why so many shoppers love Wegman’s. A Valentine’s Day promotion spotted the day before the holiday in a Buffalo-area store featured twin ribeye steaks, packaged ready-for-the-flame in a disposable, heart-shaped broiler pan.

  • Planalytics: Cold temperatures to drive winter clearance sales, limit demand for spring categories

    New York -- On Valentine’s Day weekend and continuing into the following week, cold temperatures will hold a grip on virtually all markets from the Rockies to the East Coast of North America, with most markets trending much below normal, according to business weather intelligence firm Planalytics. The cold will drive winter clearance sales while limiting demand for spring seasonal categories.

    Hhgregg is taking a different approach to President’s Day promotions this year by focusing on the ladies –- the First Ladies, that is.

  • Best Buy launches online wedding registry

    Minneapolis – Technology lovers who fall in love have a new online wedding registry option. On Feb. 16, Best Buy Co. Inc. will launch the Best Buy Wedding Registry.

    Couples can create and manage their registry online or through the Best Buy mobile app. By early April, in-store kiosks in all Best Buy locations will help registrants and gift-givers view and print wedding registry lists. Couples will also have the option of syncing their registry with MyRegistry.com and TheKnot.com.
