Report: Congestion at Los Angeles ports causing shipping crisis

New York --Congestion at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach (California) are causing logistical headaches for retailers that could turn into serious problems as they head into the holiday shopping season, according to the Los Angeles Times.



In what the Times called “the worst shipping crisis in a decade,” huge ships loaded with products are sitting idle just off the coast, waiting for cargo on the docks to clear.



According to the report, a massive influx of cargo is stressing the system. In September, the Port of Los Angeles saw imports rise 11% from a year earlier, while at Long Beach, import volume rose 10.2%.
