  • Randolph Mall welcomes two new retail tenants

    Chattanooga, Tenn. - Ross Dress for Less and Ulta Beauty are coming to Randolph Mall in Asheboro, North Carolina. The two new stores will be situated in the former J.C. Penney location.  

    Construction is expected to begin in October with the grand opening for both stores scheduled for 2016. Randolph Mall is a 400,000-sq.-ft. mall featuring more than 40 specialty stores and is anchored by Belk, Dunham’s Sports, and Sears.

    TreeHouse is a first-of-its-kind home improvement store. Specializing in curated products and services that promote healthy and sustainable spaces, the 25,000-sq.-ft. eco-friendly space is a hub for everything tied to smart, thoughtful building.

    TreeHouse is airy and inviting, with skylights and an open feel. There are lots of displays, product vignettes and graphics that explain how things work and tout the benefits of non-toxic paint and the like.

  • A&P store sell-off begins

    Quincy, Mass. – The sell-off of stores from the newly bankrupt Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) has begun. The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC has entered into an agreement with A&P to acquire 25 A&P stores in greater New York for $146 million.

  • Ross opens 27 stores, has bigger plans

    Dublin, Calif. - Ross Stores has some big plans when it comes to opening new stores. Ross is opening of 19 Ross Dress for Less and eight dd's Discounts stores across 15 different states in July.

    These new locations are part of the off-price retailer's 2015 expansion plans to add a total of approximately 90 stores during the year, including 70 Ross and 20 dd's Discounts. Ultimately, the retailer believes Ross Dress for Less can grow to 2,000 locations and dd's Discounts can become a chain of 500 stores

  • Woodfield Mall adds stores, updates interior

    Schaumburg, Ill. — Woodfield Mall, a Simon-owned and operated center with nearly 300 retail, dining and entertainment options, is adding new stores and updating its interior.

     New retailers added in 2015 include Flight 23 at Footaction, Fly Zone at Kids Foot Locker, rue21 and the first-in-state location for SIX:02.

    The center also announced the future addition of ivivva athletica, coming this summer, as well as Zara and Timberland, both scheduled to open this fall.

  • Macy’s feels the heat—from activist investor and Donald Trump

    New York — Macy’s is feeling the heat — from an activist investor and Donald Trump.

    Activist investor Starboard Value wants the department store giant to follow the example set by such other retailers and Sears Holdings and Hudsons Bay Company and capitalize on its real estate holdings by spinning them off into a new investment vehicle. 

    Starboard claims the move would double Macy’s stock value, Fortune reported. For more click here.

  • Report: Investor urges splitting off Macy's

    Macy's Inc. should split off its real estate holdings into a separate company to maximize shareholder value, Starboard Value hedge fund manager Jeffrey Smith said during an investor presentation, according to several news reports.

    According to the Wall Street Journal, Smith said Wednesday it had taken a stake in Macy’s and is pushing the department store chain to spin off some of its real-estate assets.

  • New life for C. Wonder

    New York — C. Wonder, which shuttered all its stores and filed Chapter 11 early this year, is getting a second chance—sort of.

    Xcel Brands has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the C. Wonder brand from Burch Acquisition LLC. The deal gives Xcel  the rights to thr C. Wonder trademarks, related designs and other intellectual property rights.

     The closing of the acquisition is subject to board approval
