  • Williams-Sonoma Q4 profit up 8%; announces resignation of COO/CFO

    San Francisco -- Williams-Sonoma Inc.’s fiscal fourth-quarter net income rose 8%, boosted by strong performances from its Pottery Barn and West Elm brands. The company also announced that COO and CFO Sharon McCollam, 48, has retired.

    Although the home-furnishings retailer’s results beat Wall Street estimates, it offered fiscal 2012 earnings guidance that was slightly below what analysts expect. Its revenue forecast for the year was above analysts' estimates.

  • Institute aims to keep Walmart honest on sustainability front

    Walmart is guilty of greenwashing to enhance it corporate reputation, and it would take the company three centuries at the current pace to reach its goal of being supplied 100% by renewable energy, according to a group critical of Walmart sustainability efforts that others have lauded.

  • Target adding expanded food layout to 230 stores

    New York -- Target Corp. will complete remodels at more than 100 general merchandise Target stores by March 25. The locations will be the first of three cycles of remodels for Target this year. In total, the chain expects to remodel 230 general merchandise Target stores to incorporate the expanded fresh food layout in 2012.

  • Report: Maurices opening 60 stores in 2012

    New York -- Women’s apparel retailer Maurices plans to open approximately 60 stores this year, according to the Duluth News Tribune. The total includes the chain’s first international location, in Canada.

    Maurices currently has 803 stores in 44 states, with the count up 32 stores since June.
     

  • Lego to open in Atlanta

    New York -- The Denmark-based Lego group will open a Lego store in Atlanta on March 16.

    The new store will be located in the Discover Mills outlet center. The space will feature such elements as a “Pick-A-Brick-Wall,” allowing shoppers to select and purchase specific individual Lego bricks in a variety of colors and shapes.
     

  • Sacramento gets Fresh & Easy

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy Tuesday made its Sacramento, Calif. debut with the opening of two new stores in the region. The retailer plans to open five new stores in the Sacramento area this month.

  • It’s A Doggie Dog World opens at Voorhees Town Center

    Voorhees, N.J. -- Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT) announced that upscale pet boutique It’s a Doggie Dog World has opened at its Voorhees Town Center property, located in Voorhees, N.J.

    It’s A Doggie Dog World is located on The Boulevard, offering a wide variety of high-end merchandise and professional services for dogs and cats.

  • Mid-America Real Estate appoints new Michigan principal

    Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. -- Chicago-based Mid-America Real Estate Group announced the appointment of Cynthia J. Kratchman as a new principal at its Detroit-based division Mid-America Real Estate-Michigan Inc.

    Kratchman joins the firm with more than 20 years of retail brokerage experience in Michigan, and will be primarily responsible for tenant representation, surplus disposition and high profile listings.

    Previously, she was a broker with Landmark Commercial Real Estate Services.
