  • Survey: Social media for brand conversations on the rise

    Cincinnati -- Americans are increasing their use of social media for discussions about favorite brands, while slowing down on face-to-face and phone conversations about product likes and dislikes, according to a report by Colloquy, the research arm of LoyaltyOne, a global provider of loyalty and marketing programs.

    Social media brand recommendations have grown 4% since Colloquy conducted survey research in 2011 on the word-of-mouth habits of U.S. consumers, while face-to-face recommendations have declined 4% in that time period.

  • Staples launches new price-match policy

    Framingham, Mass. -- Staples announced a new price match policy that the company said ensures customers pay the lowest price – both in stores and online. Staples said it will price match items sold and shipped by Amazon.com or any retailer who sells products in both retail stores and online under the same brand.

    New York -- Sears and its Shop Your Way loyalty program are prepared to make a splash in New York next week by playing a major role in the city’s Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival presented by Food & Wine.

    New York’s premier culinary event will be held Oct. 18 to Oct. 20 and Sears and Shop Your Way are expanding their presence this year and plan to showcase stylish and affordable lines of patio furniture, Kenmore grills and indoor and outdoor entertainment with Sears designer and TV personality Ty Pennington.

  • Overstock.com opens warehouse in Pa. in time for holiday

    Overstock.com has opened a distribution center in Jonestown, Pa., just in time for the holiday rush. The new operation means faster fulfillment of orders. Shipping products from the Jonestown facility will provide orders to customers from Maine to Florida within two days of order shipment.

  • Microsoft teams with First Data to provide frictionless offer redemption at POS

    Atlanta -- First Data Corp announced that the First Data OfferWise  solution has been integrated with Microsoft’s Bing Offers Card-Linked, which consolidates local deals from a number of deal providers. OfferWise is an open platform that enables retailers to electronically attach offers to any consumer payment card or mobile wallet to allow streamlined and automatic redemption of the offer at the point of sale (POS).
