  • Nickelodeon nabs corner of New York real estate in Toys'R'Us

    NEW YORK — Nickelodeon has launched a store within a store in Toys"R"Us Times Square. The Nick Shop is 1,000 sq. ft. and offers exclusive New York-branded products, such as kids and adult apparel, accessories, plush toys and home goods featuring Nickelodeon characters.

    Merchandise showcasing Dora the Explorer, Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi, Winx Club, SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is priced from $5.99 to $49.99. The shop also has an assortment of Nickelodeon-branded toys, books and DVDs.

  • Report: Foot Locker most tweeted about sporting goods/outdoor retailer

    Hicksville, N.Y. -- Footlocker was the most tweeted about brand with over 50,000 posts, according to GenSent Insights’ 2013 report on Sporting Goods and Outdoor Retailers. This was more than twice the number of tweets the next closest competitors, Dicks Sporting Goods and REI (generated with just under 20,000 posts each.  

    Footlocker’s digital and social media strategy includes creating such properties as Sneakerpedia (a hub for sneaker enthusiasts) Kickstagram, (a photo sharing blog) and Footlocker Unlocked (blogs, games and more).

    New York -- Nickelodeon has opened a 'Nick Shop' on the first level of the Toys "R" Us flagship in New York City’s Times Square.

  • Gatsby propels better-than-expected Q1 for Tiffany

    NEW YORK — Tiffany & Co.’s 175th anniversary and its Great Gatsby movie tie-in collection drove the jeweler’s better-than-expected financial results for the first quarter ended April 30, which included Valentine’s Day. 

    The jeweler had worldwide net sales of $895 million, an increase of 9% from $819,170 for the same period last year. On a constant exchange rate basis that excludes the effect of translating foreign currency denominated sales into U.S. dollars, worldwide net sales increased 13% and comparable store sales rose 8%.

  • Unruly Media study: This Bud video’s for you

    New York -- Almost all (97%) social video ad shares of alcohol brands during fourth quarter 2012 and first quarter 2013 were for four brands, Budweiser, Neft Vodka, Carlsberg and Heineken, according to a new report from Unruly Media.

    Findings from “Untapped Potential: The State of Sharing in the Alcohol Sector” indicate Budweiser (59%) and Neft (24%) accounted for most of this social sharing activity.

    Overall, wine brands have been the slowest to embrace social video ads, accounting for less than 1% of sharing activity.

  • Banana Boat rides shotgun with Target Chip Ganassi Racing

    INDIANAPOLIS — Banana Boat sunscreen is riding shotgun with Target-sponsored Chip Ganassi Racing for the second year in row at the 2013 Izod IndyCar Series. The sunscreen products producer is leveraging the partnership to market its Banana Boat Sport Performance CoolZone sunscreen and Banana Boat Protect and Hydrate Sunscreen lotions. 

  • Vizio launches Father’s Day contest

    IRVINE, Calif. — Vizio, a supplier of consumer electronics, is launching a Father’s Day contest called "Give Dad Your Best," sponsored in part by Best Buy, M-Go and DreamWorks Animation, in which participants are encouraged to upload to its site a video or photograph celebrating their fathers accompanied by a personal story of appreciation.

  • Mall shoppers thrive on experience

    COLUMBUS, Ohio — Shopping malls continue to be popular with consumers because they offer hands-on shopping experience, according to results of a new survey from Glimcher Retail Monitor. Consumers cite reasons such as ability to try on clothes and accessories (74%), the shopping experience (55%) and store variety (49%) for going to the mall.
