  • Popular British brand to jump the pond

    Hunter, best known for its signature rain boots, is expanding its fledgling retail footprint.   The iconic British brand will make its North American freestanding retail debut in October, at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto.   
  • Anthroplogie & Co., Westport, Connecticut

    Anthropologie has brought its large format retail concept, Anthropologie & Co., to the new Bedford Square development in downtown Westport, Connecticut.    The 35,000-sq.-ft. store boasts dedicated spaces for clothing, footwear, furniture, jewelry, home decor, and more — accented with one-of-a-kind decor from the retailer's talented visual team. It also features a beauty boutique and wedding gown department.  
  • Specialty retailer sets sights on new market

    The Tile Shop is entering the most populous metropolitan market in Texas   The specialty retailer of manufactured and natural stone tiles has opened its first store in the Houston market, in the suburb of Webster. Throughout 2017, The Tile Shop will open several other stores in the greater Houston area, including a second location in mid-August, in Sugar Land. With the two Houston openings, the retailer will have a total of 132 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia,   
  • Report: Dunkin' Donuts trying on a new name

    What's in a name? That's a question Dunkin' Donuts is wrestling with.   In a move to get people to think of the chain more as a coffee destination, the company is considering eliminating "Donuts" from its name, according to several media reports. In a test, the chain will open a new location, in Pasadena, California, that will be simply called Dunkin'. Several other locations will also be given the condensed name.   
  • Retail’s history and future plays out in one building in Detroit

    The address of Under Armour’s new brand house in Detroit — 1201 Woodward Avenue — is an historic one in retail. There, in 1917, S.S. Kresge, the forerunner of Kmart, opened its first Detroit “five-and-dime.” The Kresge Building figures in recent retail history, too, as one of the bloc of buildings purchased by Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert in his quest to revitalize Detroit’s blighted downtown.  
  • Saks to honor 80-year-old film icon (and her seven pals) for the holidays

    Saks Fifth Avenue is partnering with Disney to celebrate the holidays.   Saks' annual holiday window display at its New York City flagship on Fifth Avenue will be devoted to "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The collaboration with Disney also includes special Disney-inspired fashion, accessories and giftable items created by premier designers and available across Saks' 41 stores in the U.S. and Canada, and Saks.com.   
  • One of the world's fastest-growing character brands opens Times Square flagship

    An Asian brand whose characters were originally created for use as emoticons on a mobile messenger app has opened its first store in North America.     Line Friends, whose characters include whimsical-looking bears, ducks, bunnies and more, has opened a 4,628-sq.-ft. flagship in Manhattan's Times Square as part of the company's global expansion efforts.  It currently operates 84 locations in 11 countries around the globe.   
  • J.C. Penney turns TV show into women's apparel brand

    J.C. Penney has entered into an ambitious partnership with a Lifetime reality fashion show.    The department giant has launched the first-ever "Project Runway" brand, with the collection inspired by the popular show and its design contestants. Currently available in over 500 Penney stores and online, the line made its debut with a summer preview collection featuring designs inspired by season 15 winner Erin Robertson, with the full assortment planned for Sept. 8.
